Nuts and Bolts
PLEASE remind parents about Chow with the Cow on Monday. They can eat three meals a day at Chick Fil A on Southport and we will receive a portion of the proceeds. It will also help us win the challenge. BH has won for the past three years. We need to show them that the Acton Tigers are BACK! I've sent emails, FB posts and will make a connect ed phone call. Your assistance is appreciated.
March 10th AirBears convocation @ 9:15. We will start calling classrooms down at 9:00. The assembly will be about 30 min. long. Fifth grade teachers may go on prep at 9:35 and then 5th grade students will stay with their RA teacher after the assembly. There will be no AM intervention groups this morning.
Lunch Time- We've had several students ask to eat in the nurse's office lately. Unfortunately, we cannot have kids eating in there. Lunchtime is the clinic's busiest time for meds and restroom needs of some of our students. If a child is tired or has a headache during lunch, they can move to a quiet table, if needed. If a child is sick, feel free to send them to the clinic to be checked out. However, we won't have them eat in there.

Ways to Respond to Independent Reading, Read with A Buddy, or Read Aloud Time~
1.) It surprised me when…
2.) I like/dislike how the author ___________________ because __________________.
Show Some Spunk: Read aloud to your students regularly. When you do, model strong reading and expressive emphasis. Show them how to unlock the expressive parts of language and make it safe for them to take the risk of reading with spirit and vigor.
Totally Tone: A student is given a phrase or sentence with an emotion. The student must read the phrase or sentence in that emotion. {“I can’t wait”-read as if you were sad, sarcastic, mad, etc.}

Highly effective teachers raise the odds of success by ensuring that students want to participate, will engage, and choose to learn.
Start a competition: Have students compete with themselves (“Look at this chart to see how you did last week. I am guessing you can do even better this week”). They can also compete with one another (“We’ll work in small groups and see which one gets the solution first”).
Sweeten the deal by giving a reward to the team that gets all of the questions correct!

Our Chromebook Cart has arrived! We will now have two carts in the building. We will call one blue and one gold. Please check the outlook calendar for availability and then email Krissy for the times you want. I will be blocking out labs and carts for April 17-May 5th due to ISTEP testing.
March 7th K-2 Teachers will get their replacement ipads.
These will be full size and not the mini iPad.
