Holiday Community Service Projects Add Up to Recognition
Service usually springs from selflessness, but the president of the United States wants to recognize volunteers just the same. That’s why the Presidential Volunteer Service Award was created, a national honor offered in recognition of sustained service.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families and groups who have achieved a certain standard — measured by the number of hours served over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime. SkillsUSA is a certifying organization for these awards. Recipients can receive an official lapel pin, personalized certificate of achievement, and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States.
To apply for the award, candidates must document their volunteer activities and the number of hours served. For full details, visit: www.skillsusa.org/membership-resources/awards/presidents-volunteer-service-award/. Applications must be received (not postmarked) by April 3.
Holiday Giving Leads to Skills Build America Fund
SkillsUSA has launched its annual individual giving campaign, seeking donations for the Skills Build America Fund. Jobs in the skilled trades continue to rank No. 1 among the top 10 most difficult to fill. By donating to the Skills Build America Fund, your support will fund our career-readiness programs that students need and employers want. A financial gift to SkillsUSA enhances our programs and services to 17,000 teachers and more than 300,000 students each year. Best of all, 95 percent of our expenses directly benefit SkillsUSA members. That means not just a larger pool of skilled workers, but the employees industry wants to hire first.
SkillsUSA is a unique opportunity to strengthen the future of industry and open up great futures for America’s young people. Imagine your one-time or ongoing donation making a difference: www.skillsusa.org/get-involved/donate/.

Winter Chill is in the Air, So Grab your SkillsUSA Black Jacket by Carhartt
In an effort to make official SkillsUSA attire affordable for all students, schools can now purchase the SkillsUSA black jacket without personalization. The official SkillsUSA black jackets by Carhartt are available for purchase at: https://skillsusa.sd-store.com/
While no longer required, personalization is still included for free with each order, along with an easy-to-use patch, approved by the SkillsUSA headquarters, to cover the name during competition.
The red windbreaker has been discontinued, but if you have one already, it is considered official attire. The black jacket (with or without personalization) is now offered at approximately the same price.
As a reminder, members are encouraged to strictly follow the guidelines for official attire during ceremonies, visits with dignitaries, officer campaigns and similar occasions. A listing of approved official SkillsUSA attire can be found by visiting: www.skillsusa.org/about/history-brand-resources/emblem-colors-and-official-attire/.
