1B Update #15
June 24, 2016
What's happening in 1B!
Reading & Writing
We are big fans of poetry, particularly silly poems! We practiced visualizing the mental image that is created by the author through the use of their words. We read the poems with partners and then drew the picture we visualized in our minds. In writing, we finalized our five senses poem, our shape poem, and our rhyming poem and published them in our very own poetry book.
Math
We have reach the end of our math unit this term. Our students have been busy finding all different combinations that we can make with coins. The kids really enjoyed counting money because they were able shop and purchase items from each other. We had math centers where the students enjoyed revisiting activities they loved doing this year. We wrapped up math by delving deep into word problems. Going through them step-by-step understanding what the problem is asking us to do and what would be the best operation sign to help us solve. We encourage all families to work on comparison word problems at home. A way to support at home is to have them compare the numbers in a word problem and find what the two numbers have in common, then to find the difference to solve the problem.
