Charger Check-In
January 11, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
We are having a good first week following Christmas break! Our 8th graders took their graduation pictures this morning. Our PK3 students are showing off how well they can count to 10. Our kindergartners are completing mystery sentences by filling in the missing vowel from words while our 1st graders are practicing with long and short vowel sounds in fluency books and with letter tiles. Our 3rd graders are bragging about the math facts they are mastering. Our 5th graders are preparing to begin Gordon Korman's Restart. Our 6th graders are demonstrating how well they can work with percentages.
And by now you've heard that we will be in session on Friday, January 12 with an early dismissal at 1PM. There will be no extended care after school and all extracurricular activities, including sports practices and games, are cancelled for Friday afternoon and evening. The early dismissal will give a nice start to our three-day weekend as we have no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Re-registration for Current Families
Thank you to all the current school families who have completed their re-registration for the 2024-2025 school year. I know many families are waiting for their automatic Blackbaud payment on January 15.
- If you have not completed the Google Form, please do so ASAP.
- If you pay your tuition manually, I encourage you to make the payment no later than Monday, January 15. After the 15th, the re-registration fee will increase to $100.
Registration for New Families
I'm happy to share that we will be moving our registration for new families online. This will allow us to verify that potential new families are registered parishioners (especially for those grade levels with waiting lists). More importantly, people will no longer need to spend the night in the cars on cold January evenings.
- We will keep our tradition of opening new family registration on the Thursday before the start of Catholic Schools Week.
- The link for online registration will be available on the school website, on our social media pages, in the church bulletin and on the church doors.
- The link will go live at 8:30AM on Thursdady, January 25.
With start of a new month, I want to share a parent-guardian online resource from Common Sense Media. This link will bring you to a curated collection of podcasts created for children and their families. This could provide a fun opportunity for a shared listening experience with your child - perhaps during a car ride or on a day when you want an indoor activity. The reviews should provide some guidance regarding topics and age-appropriateness. Of course, you are always the best gauge of whether a particular podcast is appropriate for your child.

Health and Hygiene
- Our teachers and staff are givng time and attention to wiping down desks and other high touch areas like light switches, door knobs and the tops of chair backs.
- Each classroom has an air purifier and hand sanitizer.
- Our maintenance staff will be fogging classrooms, offices and locker handles daily.
- And, finally, all of our hallway hand sanitizing dispensers are being checked and refilled regularly.
To help curb the spead of these illnesses, please keep your student home if they are experiencing symptoms that indicate a sickness is contagious.
- If your child experiences a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, your child must remain at home until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
- If you child has been prescribed a round of antibiotics, please be sure they complete the entire course of the medication.
Culvers has asked for a few volunteers throughout the day - to greet families and to help their staff stay on top of clearing tables. If you plan to take your kids for lunch or dinner anyway, it's an easy way to snag an hour towards your volunteer requirement! Looking to fill 1-2 volunteers during each of the following shifts: 11:00-12:00, 12:00-1:00, 5:00-6:00 and 6:00-7:00. Please send an email to Julie Carey at jcarey19@gmail.com if you can help.
