CAMPUS SAFETY

SRP Training for all Staff

All Coyle MS and Coyle Tech staff members will complete Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Training with GISD Security on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) provides consistent, clear, shared language and actions among all students, staff and first responders, that can be applied in any emergency. This video illustrates how to implement each of the SRP actions – Secure (Lockout), Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, and Hold – in a school setting. It is intended to accompany the SRP Toolkit and can be used to train school staff and students on the SRP. The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) referenced in the video was developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation.

SCHOOL ID'S and PAW CARDS ARE HERE!

Students will be receiving their ID badges beginning Monday, September 12th. To make certain our students understand the importance of wearing an identification badge, Mr. Barnett is asking all WIN teachers to show this presentation regarding GISD and campus ID requirements. As an added recourse, please emphasize the importance of wearing their ID badge, and model GISD requirements as well.

We are working on a plan to get school IDs to new students and those who were not here on picture day. We will send out that information as soon as possible.

Also, please take very careful note of the UIL Eligibility calendar. If students fail this 6-week progress report, they will not be able to participate in Football, Volleyball, or Band events after that 7 day grace period. It might affect other Fine Arts events if they have activities going on right now. I want to urge you all to speak with your student-athlete and also communicate with coaches/directors if he/she is not passing all courses for this upcoming progress report. Please ensure he/she has turned in all work, completed makeup work, and attends teacher tutorials, if needed.

You can view the UIL Eligibility calendar here: https://home.garlandisd.net/Garland_ISD_Eligibility_Calendar_2022-2023_7-20-22.pdf

AVID BINDERS

Starting Monday, August 22nd, we will begin the implementation of our AVID Binders. Every student must have an AVID binder. You can find all of the items needed for the AVID Binders in the school supply list posted on our website.

Our students will use the AVID Binder system to develop learners who can self-direct, self-evaluate, self-monitor, and self-advocate. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED to maintain their school binder following the AVID Binder model.

What is the AVID Binder?

The AVID Binder is a system for keeping essential school materials and class assignments organized into one binder. A proper AVID Binder contains all the "required items" from the school supply list. Below, you can watch a short video on How to Organize Your AVID Binder.

AVID binder checks will be conducted once a month in predetermined classes. Teachers leading the monthly AVID Binder checks will be looking for “Required Items” and overall organization. Please review the video so can help prepare your child at home for a successful binder check, and to learn more about AVID.

How can I support my child at home?

Regularly check your student's backpack and AVID Binder. All papers should be placed in binder rings in the proper class section. Remove unnecessary papers. Ensure all required materials are present. We encourage you to reference the video below.

What is AVID?

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. For more information about AVID, visit their website at avid.org.

Thank you for your partnership and support. If you have any questions about the AVID Binder, do not hesitate to contact us.
