Panther Families,

Excitement abounds at Discovery! We have students that are showcasing their various talents and winning! It is great to see our students doing what they love and doing it well. This week is National School Counselors Week. I would like to take a moment to THANK our wonderful DMS counselors--Kelle Moody, Shanaya Thompson and Tim Van Dorn. Words cannot express how valuable they are to our DMS family. Their dedication to our students and school community is simply AMAZING!! Please join us in celebrating them!

From Our DMS PTA

Dear Panther Families,

There are many ways to PTA...volunteering, becoming a member, baking, purchasing supplies, donations, etc. We are so grateful fo all those who have participated. We still need your help. Income < Expense. We have not met our membership or donation goals and the money we had budgeted for teacher appreciation at the beginning of the school year is hardly enough for what this year has become. In order to help the children, we are focused on uplifting the staff, teachers, and admin by providing quarterly individuallly boxed lunches and monthly thank you surprises. We can not do enough for everyone at Discovery and believe that the trickle down effect will ultimately reach our children. Our goal is $5000 by Monday, Feb 8. Any amount would be appreciated because it would only take $5 from all of our families to surpass our goal...together we can roar like a Panther! Please click on the link to see how close we are to reaching $5000 https://dmsptagiving.memberhub.gives/8d0aab

Thank you,

Loretta Justice, PTA President 2020-21

Flight and Space News

Members from the UAH Engineering Department, known as Charger Rocket Works Outreach, will be hosting hands-on learning for students in Flight and Space this term. The outreach program will consist of UAH students studying engineering. They will introduce the basics of rocketry then give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge as they build and launch water-fueled rockets on campus.

DMS Band

Congratulations to Alex Fedoseyev who made First Chair all state Euphonium! He was also chosen best in all of Madison, Morgan, and Limestone counties and he is one of the top 4 in the state. He will audition again in April at the All State Music Festival. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Johnson who made first alternate for flute, which means she is 5th in the district! This is a great accomplishment.
