Fulbright Teacher in our Midst!

Our Chapter President discusses her future work in Chili as a Fulbright Teacher, a KDP Classroom Scholarship, and shares her blog to share in her journey. Congratulations and best wishes for a fulfilled experience, Daria!

Dear KDP Community,

I am in Santiago, Chile conducting research on incorporating Chilean children literature into Spanish curriculum! Here is my blog about my adventures: I also want to share that I applied for and received $150 Classroom Teachers grant from KDP! I purchased multiple books for my classroom with the funds. I hope you enjoy a few pictures of my student's new goodies!

Teacher Resources

  • NEA’s Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Get involved! Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people. More here:

  • Napflix. Yes, NAPflix. Though this website was created for those who need to fall asleep fast, Napflix actually has educational content as well as simple background noise which may be helpful in soothing your students while they work - and yourself. From burning fireplaces, model railroads, to aquariums - Napflix is redefining your 'flix 'n chill.'

  • Flipping the Classroom Learn how the University of Trinidad and Tobago transitioned to active flipped classroom environments, shifting from a record-first-figure-it-out-later paradigm to a teaching- and learning-centered system of lecture capture. Lessons Learned In Flipping the Classroom.

  • The Importance of Caring & Consistent Adults Mentoring month was February, but in case you missed it, you can visit the Mentoring Connector database—the largest collection of volunteer mentoring opportunities in the country—year-round. Remember, students who have mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school, making mentoring one of the most valuable gifts a child can receive.
