Teeland Middle School
March 2022
Letter from the Principal
3/01/2022
Dear Teeland Families,
The end of Quarter 3 is nearing quickly. We have 9 weeks and 3 days left in this tumultuous school year! With the pandemic issues and weather related concerns, our students have had quite a few interruptions in their academic year during what we had hoped to be an improvement over last year. More interruptions are to come in the nine weeks after Spring Break as we will be administering school-wide testing for our Alaska STAR assessment at the beginning of April, and MAP, (Measures of Academic Progress) around the middle of April. We will implement a block schedule for the two weeks of these testing times to try and get through the assessments in as few days as possible. It is important that your student be present for these tests and give their absolute best effort.
Our teachers have been reaching out to families over the last two weeks to offer support and information to parents regarding their student’s grades. If your student is struggling, please connect with their teachers through email and take advantage of our support opportunities in the fourth quarter:
1. After school Study Hall, 2:30-3:30, every Tuesday and Thursday. The office has permission slips.
2. Lunch Study Hall is available Monday-Thursday for both A and B lunches.
3. Math lab is available on Wednesdays during 7th period and after school until 3:30. There are permission slips available in the front office.
Contact your student’s school counselor to plan for success if needed.
As mentioned in previous newsletters, TMS will be again opting for an 8th Advancement Celebration instead of the traditional 8th Grade Promotion. Our eighth grade students voted to have a Celebration Assembly and BBQ. Parents wanting to view the assembly will either have a live link available, or access to the recorded event. This is a student centered assembly and picnic for eighth grade students to spend time with their peers before moving on to their respective high schools. We will send more information about options for viewing in May.
Enjoy spending time with your families over Spring Break, March 4th- March 13th. Please reach out to us if you have any questions, 907-352-7500.
