PAWS and CHAMPS
By now, many of you may have already heard your kids talking about PAWS and/or CHAMPS. PAWS stands for:
Work To Do My Best
We use PAWS in the hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, playground, during arrival/dismissal and assemblies. Depending on the location, there are different descriptions for each of the letters in PAWS. For example, to Practice Safety in the hallway, we would use walking feet. These are campus-wide expectations that help all students be successful!
Make sure to ask your child what it means when we say, "PAWS UP!"
CHAMPS is used to promote classroom expectations. It is a positive behavior support that helps students take ownership of their learning, and assists the teacher with managing the classroom. CHAMPS stands for:
Conversation - Can students talk to each other?
Help - How can students get the teachers attention?
Activity - What is the objective?
Movement - Can student move about?
Participation - What does the desired student behavior look/sound like?
Success - Soar to Success!
Teachers collaborate with students to determine expectations throughout the day. See below for examples of how CHAMPS can be used in the classroom. Make sure to ask your child about CHAMPS. We strive to ensure all students are successful!
