Woodland Elementary School
Weekly Update for the week of December 14-18
Good Afternoon Elementary Families!
I know I must sound redundant when I say I cannot believe how fast time is passing this year but I cannot believe that I am already writing our last parent newsletter for 2020! As we all know, this year has been unlike any year any of us had ever dreamed of experiencing. If you would have told me when I went into teaching that one day I would be principal of a virtual school I would have laughed and said “ what is next flying Deloreans?”
But as I reflect upon this first half of the FY21 school year I am just so impressed by our students, staff, and all of our family's willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure our student’s success. I am so thankful for each and every one of you for making Woodland Elementary the special place it is. It is amazing to me that even though the brick-and-mortar school is closed, the school environment is open and thriving throughout our Woodland Community. I know this holiday season will look different than any other but I truly hope that each and every one of you can find time to spend this holiday season with the ones we love albeit in a virtual setting.
Over winter break the school offices will be open Monday through Wednesday both weeks. If you need anything, we are just a phone call away. The offices will be closed on the following days over winter break:
Christmas Eve-December 24
Christmas Day-December 25
New Years Eve-December 31
New Years Day-January 1
As a reminder, there will be no student attendance on January 4, 2021, for Teacher Institute Day in which we will be focusing on continuing to enhance Remote Learning 2.0. The school will be back in session on Tuesday, January 5th at 9 a.m. with our first announcements of the new year.
In closing, I hope everyone enjoys their winter break and hopefully there is a little snow that the boys and girls can get outside and have a little fun in over winter break too!
Sincerely,
Ryan Wollberg
Elementary Principal

Art Supplies
Now that the first quarter is ending, please check with your students to see if they need 'refills' on school supplies. School supplies such as pencils, crayons, and markers are used nearly every day in Art. Additional art supplies such as blank white drawing paper, a Sharpie and watercolor paint are used as well. If you have any questions about supplies, or have difficulty providing them, please contact your student's Art teacher. Thank you for supporting your student in Art!

Parent Tips During Remote Learning
Social Emotional Resources
Erin's Law Presentations
This week we will look at the resources circled in the visual. If you missed it last week, please first click on the link on the whiteboard to find a letter explaining the calming corner and offering the contact information for your student’s school social worker. Next, click on the image of the Zones of Regulation poster to be taken to a document with a series of visuals that help teach students about the emotions that belong to each zone and the calming strategies students can use based on the zone they are in. For more information about the Zones of Regulation, please reach out to your student’s school social worker.
Please also take a few minutes to explore the different resources found on the bookshelf. You will find a variety of videos demonstrating breathing strategies, yoga routines, and mindfulness practices that will help students be ready to learn. Have some fun while practicing these! It is best to practice calming strategies when students are regulated so they are familiar when a student is struggling with strong emotions.
If you have any questions about the virtual calming corner or the resources available, please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or social worker!
