Message from the Ms. Simonson...
Dear Maine Lion Families~
The SNOW is here! The students are having a great time building and sliding in the new fallen snow! Thank you for sending snow pants and boots with your child. The students that are prepared for the weather, are having a BLAST!
Our focus this month is our new Helping Hands program! We are going to record the helpful acts that our students do and see how many we get! When we get to our goal of 500, each staff member is going to pledge $1 to our local volunteer fire department! Each time our amazing students hit the mark...the staff will donate! We are excited to celebrate our helpful students!
Your partner in education,
Ms. Simonson

November Leader in Me Focus - Habit 2 - Begin With the End in Mind
- Habit number 2 is Begin with the End in Mind. This means you need to set a goal and make a plan.
- Beginning with the end in mind means that you are making a commitment. That means you make a pledge to dedicate time and effort into a goal.
- Beginning with the end in mind means that you are finding purpose. Having a purpose means you are trying to find the best version of yourself.
- Beginning with the end in mind means you have a vision. When you have a vision, it means you are able to think about and plan for future goals.
Habits at Home - Habit 2 - Begin With the End in Mind
Summary
In this video, Goob really wants to buy a new bug-collecting kit, so he makes a plan to earn the money. Jumper, on the other hand only wants to play. Once Jumper sees Goob’s success, they work together and share the money. Jumper spends his money quickly while Goob follows his plan and gets everything he wants.
What to Watch for While Viewing
In this video, Goob sees something in a store window that he really wants but he doesn’t have any money. He decides to make a plan. As you watch, think about how Goob’s plan helped him get everything he wanted.
Habit 2 Leadership Buddy Activity
On Friday, November 18th, students synergized with their Leadership Buddies to reflect on Habit 2, “Begin with the End in Mind.” During the activity, students discussed the importance of creating a plan to reach your goals.
As Maine Elementary is introducing a new program called Helping Hands, we related our activity to our Leader in Me Habit 2.
The Helping Hands Program is a program that recognizes and rewards the students’ prosocial behaviors of helping others be successful during the school year.
The students at Maine Elementary will be celebrating their helpful acts by completing “Helping Hands” tickets. The school will be working towards a goal of collecting 500 tickets. Once the goal is reached, the students will receive a school-wide reward for their achievements and Maine Staff Members will be donating the money that is raised towards our local fire department!
During the activity, the students were introduced to the Helping Hands Program and created hands with their Leadership Buddies to show how they can help one another throughout the school day. We were honored to have one of our own local firefighters read a story to our students that talked about a young boy working towards a goal of making his community a better place. The students were able to reflect on how helpful acts of kindness can make a big impact on the people and places around you.
We are so excited to be able to help our community, just as the book character was able to do! We can’t wait to see our Maine Lions “roaring” with kindness with our new Helping Hands program!
Our Winter Concert is coming soon!
