STEAM 8
One Semester
Environmental Studies
Environmental studies is the investigation of the Earth’s ecosystems and interactions between living and non-living components. This course will explore areas from the poles to the rainforests. Themes in the class will include:
Ecosystems
Biodiversity
Natural resource management
Climate change
Energy sources
Recycling
Astrobiology
Astrobiology is the scientific search for life on other worlds, which actually starts here on Earth. We will examine extreme parts of our own planet to get a sense of what might survive in less hospitable environments beyond Earth. We will explore what it takes for a world to be habitable, and how we are finding potentially habitable places within our own solar system and beyond. Students will also think like engineers about some of the challenges we need to overcome in order to investigate other planets in the search for life.
