Our First Learning Week
Settling In
Dear parents,
What a busy week we have just had! The 6th class students have had a lot to manage, with a new timetable, new subjects, finding the library and the lab and looking after their school supplies. In addition they have started their extracurricular activities on Tuesday and Thursday and need to remember what they are doing and what equipment they need. That is a lot for a new student to cope with and on top of that they are adjusting to their new lives with their Irish families and speaking English.
You should be proud of your sons and daughters as they are adjusting very well to all their new changes. Thankfully, they are especially settled at school. Their enthusiasm for their new inquiries and tasks is evident. They are discovering new subjects this week like Philosophy, Drama and trying out experiments in the well-equipped laboratory. It is clear they work well in teams and love learning.
We, the tutors, and the Irish families, are doing everything we can to help them settle into their new family life. This can be a longer period of adjustment for some children and it is still early days. What is lovely to witness, is the support the students give each other and we hope that no student feels alone in their homesickness. Fortunately they are all able to communicate effectively their feelings and we give them plenty of opportunity to do so in these first weeks.
This week we attach a clip of some students speaking about what Ireland means to them and brainstorm their ideas in groups. Most ideas were based on weather and food! We captured the students so that they could look back on their ideas at the end of the term and see what they have learnt about their host country.
Please continue to communicate any concerns you may have and we hope you are getting the feeling too that your child is beginning to settle and adapt to their new routine.
Estimadas familias:
