HEALTHY LUNCHES IN SCHOOLS
Spotswood College is welcoming the Ka Ora, Ka Ako/Healthy School Lunches programme into our school from Term 2, 2021.
This means that every one of our 900 students will be provided with a free healthy school lunch daily.
We are very excited to let our school community know that we have worked with students and selected local suppliers Subway Metro and Kaan's Catering.
The lunches will be varied and all lunches will be in line with the Ministry of Health guidelines for nutrition and the Ministry of Education’s waste management requirements.
The providers will be able to cater for a variety of dietary needs and can provide gluten-free (for people with coeliac disease or simply gluten-free), vegetarians, vegans, egg-free and dairy-free lunches.
If your child has a dietary need, please complete the form below, this will also be emailed to parents. This information needs to be returned to school by Friday 9th April.
The first day that lunches will be provided is Monday 3 May (the first day of Term 2).

Option 2: Send a text to the Attendance Officer (Jenine) on 021 023 93060
Option 3: send an email to the Attendance Officer (Jenine) - jpr@spotswoodcollege.school.nz
Option 4: Leave a message on the Attendance hotline by calling the school on 06 751 2416 and press (1) to report a student absence. Record your child’s name, parents name, contact details and reason for absence.
If for any reason you are concerned about your child’s attendance, you can speak with the Attendance Officer (see contact details above) or she will pass you on to the DEAN or your child’s Learning Advisor.

STUDENTS AT THE CENTRE OF LEARNING

COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF WHO WE ARE
We are very fortunate to have an extensive Gateway Program where our students get to work and learn alongside our community. Captured below is Alex Stone (year 13 - far left) on her first day of Gateway at Locals Cafe where she was made to feel welcome and part of the team from the outset. Such awhi and acceptance is key to the high engagement and success our students have in the community and classroom.

CULTURAL AND SPORTING SUCCESS
There was a great trip for the MTB students at the Skoda North Island Mountain Bike Championship this week at 440 in Orere Point.
We had two riders enter the Enduro and the Downhill.
Enduro - Total entries - 250
Josh Houghton 21st in under 17's and 49th overall
Stan Crawshaw 39th in under 17's and 108 overall
Down Hill - Total entries - 200
Josh Houghton - 8th in under 17's and 22nd overall
Stan Crawshaw - 21st in under 17's and 73rd overall.
These are outstanding results by our young people in a highly competitive event!
Pic credits for these are JCR Pix.
Senior Boys 3rd in Division 2 (19th Place in New Zealand)
Spotswood College senior boys team Hamish Mortimer, Jayden Leece, Rylee Houghton, Juraj Krajci, Justin Goundar, Shaeden Wetere, Joe Cocker, Lucas Heggie, Matthew Jeffrey, Zalan Lizan. Had trained hard for the New Zealand Secondary school championships and were Taranaki champions leading to the event. The School team did, unfortunately, have injuries leading into the National tournament event with both Rylee and Jayden suffering major ankle injuries. The team, unfortunately, lost Jayden in the first match of the tournament and Rylee was able to manage throughout the week. Also, Hamish was suffering from cramping and Justin with his shoulder injury managed to stay healthy enough to last the tournament.
The school team had excellent wins over quality opposition.
The school team were really fortunate with support this year with Carla Houghton, Yulan Imhasly, Cara Moffitt, Charlotte, Jeff, Luke & Esther Cocker, Bruce & Faris Petty, Graeme, Lara & Lili Mortimer, Jen, Terry Leece, and the Leece Grandparents and Kristina Joe supporting the team down in Palmerston North. The largest support we have had who have travelled to the National tournament.

Girls Volleyball at Nationals this week!
The young people involved in this National Tournament were amazing ambassadors for Spotswood College. A relatively new and young team who were able to learn from being a part of this tournament so that they are well established to come back with vigour and zest next year.
They played well and were positive role models both on and off the court.
We had 4 wins and finished with a strong overall ranking.

Our Sport Active courses are about getting every junior student physically active during the week in a space and at a pace that they feel comfortable to extend themselves within. Beyond this Spotswood College also offers a wide range of sporting team and club opportunities. Sharon Niwa has been appointed as the new Sports Coordinator and can be contacted at sports@spotswoodcollege.school.nz
Photographed below is the off-road team making the most of a super sunny Sunday!
A dedicated team of students and staff who are making great strides in this sport!

On March 18th, 22 students went to Inglewood to partake in the TSSSA Athletics event. This is by far the largest number Spotswood College has taken in many years and was something acknowledged by our local schools.
One of the bigger events in the TSSSA calendar, out of the 22 students involved, 14 of them were year 9 students gaining some valuable experience representing our school for the first time.
The students performed well and represented our school with pride. There were many placings within the top 10 of multiple events across the day, with stand out results being:
Summer Price (Senior Girls) - 2nd Place Javelin, 3rd Place Shot Put;
Zara Erol-Watt (Int. Girls) - 3rd Place Long Jump
Tyreque Ormsby (Jnr. Boys) - 3rd Place Long Jump
Thanks to Mr Abrams, Mr Ward and Whaea Ann for taking our students and giving them an awesome opportunity. To all the students who went and participated, thank you for the way you represented our school and be proud of your efforts.
