Principal's Message

Greetings Families of St. Vital!

I hope everyone had a relaxing break taking time to recover, reconnect with family and friends, and were able to see some different scenery. It was nice to have the time to recharge as we enter the business of March.

March 2 is the beginning of Lent. Lent is a time to reconnect and become closer with God as we take time to reflect on what we can do during the Lenten season. We are asked, during these 40 days, to consider fasting (to give up something), alms giving (do charity work or make donations), or connect with God through prayer (reading the bible, attending church, daily prayer). Talk to your child about what they and you are willing to do during Lent to become closer to God and together make a Lenten Promise.

March is also a time where students are finishing up their units and projects in the various curricular areas in preparation of sharing their learning during Student Led Conferences. These will be taking place March 23 and 24. Communication regarding the format and sign up sheet will be out the second week of March.

With the removal of masking mandates and contact tracing we ask families and staff to take care and be safe. COVID is still in our community and we would like our students and staff to be at school. Masks are not mandatory but still recommended, so it is between you and your child what you want to do. We continue to ask those who are sick not to enter the school. Remember to let the school know when your child will be absent. At school proper hygiene and cleaning/sanitizing are being reinforced.

Take care and God Bless,

Natasha Nichol

What's Happening at St. Vital This Month?

Sacramental Candidates

Our Grade 2 students have started the process in learning about the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist. Please keep them in their prayers as they learn about these sacraments and grow closer to God. Each month they are responsible for the ministries at mass. You are all invited to celebrate with them Sunday, March 6th 10:30 at St. Vital Church.

Following the 10:30 mass at St. Vital Church on Sunday, March 13th, there will be a training session for anyone who is interested in becoming an altar server at the weekend or school masses. The only requirement at this time is that you have received the sacrament of Confirmation. There is no sign up necessary, just attendance following the mass. St. Vital School Community Council

Thank you to our School Community Council Members who came out to help make pancakes for Pancake Tuesday. Students were quite delighted with the wonderful aroma permeating throughout the school. One student even commented that these pancakes were better than her grandpa's.

This month SCC members have the opportunity to participate in a virtual workshop called Four Seasons of Reconciliation on March 24th. It is a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the history of Canada's Indigenous communities and ways we can work together towards reconciliation.

Upcoming Fundraisers for Playground Enhancements:

March 28th - April 8th: Co-op Gift Cards

May/June: Family Pizza Coupons

The next SCC meeting is March 30th @ 7:00pm. Please reach out if you are interested in joining the team. New members are always welcomed.

Report Cards & Student Led Conferences

Student Report Cards will be going out Tuesday, March 22nd (Monday, March 21st for Kindergarten).

Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are a time for students to share their learning, success and goals for the remainder of the school year with their family. This year Student Led Conferences will be Wednesday, March 23rd and Thursday, March 24th 4:00-7:00. Families will have the option to participate in person or virtually. There will be a form sent home with the youngest child from each family for families to indicate their preferred hour and format. Please be sure to return these to the office after receiving them as SLC's are a great opportunity to connect school and home.

Staff Professional Development Days

There are two professional development days for St. Vital Staff this month.

March 14th will be division wide focusing on the Four Seasons of Reconciliation. We will be learning about the history and culture of Indigenous communities in Canada, the history of residential schools, and treaties around the country.

March 25th is unique to St. Vital Catholic School Staff. This day is designated as our Faith Development day. Staff will be taking time to learn about the meaning behind Lent, ways in which we can recognize it, deepening our relationship with Jesus and God, as well as strategies and tools that we can share with our school faith community and families.
