Grade Enhancement Based on Student Progress During MP4

The Loudoun County School Board adopted a resolution to allow students to improve on their final grades based on individual progress during MP4. While no student will receive a numerical grade for MP4, there is now an opportunity to benefit from the progress a student has made. This benefit will help to increase a student's final grade based on learning that takes place in a distance learning environment.
On April 28th the School Board provided LCPS with guidelines related to how student
progress during MP4 could enhance a student's final grade. As a result, Smart’s Mill is putting into place the following criteria to track student progress for MP4 (April 15 - June 10).
- Teachers will code all grades in as a formative in their gradebooks. This will be a numerical grade, but will have no effect on the student’s final grade.
- Teachers will use this grade to identify if the student received a “Satisfactory” or “Unsatisfactory” for that assignment. This will also be documented in Phoenix.
- If a student does not turn in an assignment, that assignment will be coded as “Missing” until the student turns in the assignment. A missing assignment shows as a zero in the gradebook. Students will have ten school days from the due date of an assignment to complete any missing work. Missing assignments will be coded as an “Unsatisfactory”.
- At the end of MP4 teachers will assess the work based on the number of “Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory” grades to determine if a student will receive a mark of “P” for passed or an “N” for not passed.
- Any student that receives an overall grade of “Passed” for MP4 will earn the grade enhancement to their final grade.
- The details about the grade enhancement can be found on the LCPS Continuity of Education Website.
