Dr. Martin Luther King Day - Monday, January 20 ~ NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
There will be no school for students in the Chelsea School District on Monday, January 20, 2020 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
We thank Dr. King for his tireless efforts toward civil rights and service to others. On this day, we encourage all of our students find ways to make a positive contribution in their community and be of service to others.
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
#WhyYouMatter - Year #4 - Campaign Kickoff
For the past four years, Chelsea High School has conducted a #WhyYouMatter campaign aimed at improving our school environment. Our #WhyYouMatter theme this year comes from a county-wide mental health campaign called #wishyouknew. The #wishyouknew campaign aims to spark honest conversations by sharing our truths, feelings, successes, and hardships in an effort to better support each other and connect as one Chelsea community.
We kicked off our campaign on Thursday, January 16 at our annual #WhyYouMatter Speaker Series assembly. Current CHS teachers, Art Finger, Valerie Johnson as well as senior Riley Thorburn and CHS graduate (2016) Derek Schaedig presented their #wishyouknew speeches to our students.
We video recorded the assembly and will make it available online for parents and community members as soon as possible.
Today, students will be working with their 4th hour classes to determine their own #wishyouknew statements for this year's #whyyoumatter community art project.
Thank you to Laura Naar, Jason Murphy, Laura Woodruff and Laura Lutz for all of their planning and work to make this event special.
Special Olympics Polar Plunge - 2020
Each year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge series challenges thousands of brave jumpers at numerous locations around the state. It's a great way for everyone - students, families, organizations and businesses - to get involved in supporting Special Olympics Michigan. All funds raised go towards year-round sports training and athletic competition for nearly 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan.
This year Chelsea High School is looking for donations and people to join our Plunge team! Click the link to donate or join Team Chelsea. https://www.classy.org/event/washtenaw-county-polar-plunge/e253653
