A Note from Mrs. Williams
Hello Schluter Families!
What a turnaround in the weather it has been this week! I am happy that we have the sunshine and warmth back. This week we celebrated our students being 100 days smarter by dressing as 100 year old's. We had the cutest 100 year old's I've ever seen! Students also took their Spring photos on Wednesday, and those will come back soon for those who ordered them.
This week, we've also been celebrating our wonderful counselor, Ms. Kane, as it is National School Counseling Week. We appreciate her for all that she does for our students, staff, and community here at Schluter. She is simply the best!
Monday is Valentine's Day! Since it is on a Monday this year, along with a full day, teachers and students will be sharing the love just among their classmates this year. We look forward to welcoming our families for our next event, Open House, on March 8th. We will send more information as it gets closer.
Next week is Random Acts of Kindness week. We have been talking with students about Kindness all month, but I encourage you to find a way to be kind and show it next week! An encouraging note or email to your child's teacher or doing something nice for someone in need goes a long way!
Next week, we also kick off our Boosterthon PTA fundraiser! We hope you consider giving a donation or sponsoring your child. These funds go straight to PTA and allow them to support our school with purchasing guided reading library books and flexible seating for students to use in the classroom. There is information below about how to sign up and start giving, and be on the lookout for reminders as we near the fun run the following week!
With it being Superbowl weekend, I hope whoever you're rooting for wins on Sunday! :) I don't know about you, but I'm always most excited about the halftime show and the great commercials. Enjoy the beautiful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams

PTA Reflections
CONGRATULATIONS to our very own 5th grader, Leila Strother! She represented our campus in the District PTA Reflections competition. She received 3rd place in the Dance Choreography division for titled A Little Bit of Love Can Make a Big Change.
A Little Bot of Love Can Make a Big Change
I can change the world by spreading love. In the song I chose, it says “little drops of rain can make a tidal wave." To me, this means the little things we do can make a big impact in people's lives. Just because your little, you can still do a lot. Loving on others can mean different things. For example, you can show random acts of kindness, encourage others, or pray for our world. Jesus wants us to love each other, and show that we care. I know I'm little but I can love BIG and change the world.

Enrollment boom propels NISD’s expected 5-year increase to double
This fall, Northwest ISD added more than 2,200 students from the same time frame last year, which represents an 8.7% enrollment increase. That increase is expected to continue for many years to come. Demographic experts project Northwest ISD will reach an enrollment of 37,370 students in five years (2026-2027) – representing an increase of almost 10,000 students. The new projection is roughly double the previously expected increase of about 5,000 new students over five years.

Reminders of COVID procedures
Reporting COVID Results: Reporting positive COVID results helps us monitor cases at each school and inform potential close contacts. Please report any positive COVID results using this form.
Don’t Attend if Sick or Awaiting Results: If a student or staff member is exhibiting symptoms or awaiting COVID test results, please do not come to school. This helps prevent potential COVID spread, and keeping our students and staff safe and healthy is our top priority.
Testing at School: If a student or staff member begins exhibiting symptoms at school, he or she can receive a COVID test in the school nurse’s office. Consent forms for these tests are available on our COVID website. To reiterate the prior point, however, do not come to school if already sick – please seek an external testing location.
In-District Testing: A testing location is available in the parking lot of Old Texan Stadium, across the street from Northwest ISD Stadium. This program, operated by a third-party vendor, is free for a general COVID test. Information about this location is available on our website.
COVID Testing Site at Old Texan Fieldhouse
Northwest ISD has partnered with GeneIQ to use Old Texan Fieldhouse as a drive-through COVID PCR testing site for the community at large. Each COVID PCR test is free, though more extensive testing will be billed to an individual’s insurance.
Students, families, staff and community members can all receive COVID testing in the parking lot in front of Old Texan Fieldhouse without exiting their vehicles. All testing is administered by GeneIQ personnel, while Northwest ISD is only providing its location for use as the testing facility. Patients with symptoms will have the option of a regular COVID-19 PCR test or a combination test called COVID+, that tests for COVID-19, Flu A & B, and RSV.
Testing takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. When Northwest ISD Stadium hosts a game, the drive-through testing service will close at 5 p.m. to assist in game-day traffic. To be eligible for a COVID test, the individual being tested must exhibit symptoms or be classified as a close contact. Registration is required; individuals in need of testing can register on location or at www.mycovidappointment.com.

Free Meal Program Extended for Elementary, Middle Schools
All Northwest ISD students in elementary and middle school will continue receive free breakfast and lunch meals during the 2021-2022 school year! While students in high school will not take part in the same program, they can continue to apply for free or reduced-price meals.
Though meals are free to all elementary and middle school students, we strongly encourage families to continue to apply for the free and reduced-price meal program, as there are further benefits that can help reduce financial hardship. An accurate count of students in need also helps provide the appropriate programs at schools. Anyone who previously applied for the free or reduced-price meal program or believes they may now qualify based on their financial circumstances should still apply. This will also ensure these students receive free or reduced-cost meals for at least the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year.
