From the Principal...Kristy McKnight

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I know that I was so glad that I was able to spend some quality time with my family.

We are so excited to be hosting our second annual Frosty Fest at Gray Willows on Tuesday from 4-6pm. There will be multiple vendors, an ornament make and take station, as well as hot chocolate. Come support local vendors to stock up on unique gifts for the holiday season!

Our online book fair runs through Sunday, December 5th. Click on the flyer below for the link and all of the details.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Big Hearts of Fox Valley and the Salvation Army toy collection. We are still accepting new, unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army Toys for Kids program through Tuesday of next week. The donation box is in the foyer.

Have a great weekend,
Kristy McKnight

Picture Retake Day

Today was Picture Retake day! Previous communication from LifeTouch stated that you did not need to return your original picture package. Unfortunately, this was incorrect. If you want prints from the retakes, you need to return the original photos. Please send them in next week and we will get them sent back to LifeTouch.

Thank you!

iReady Mid-Year Diagnostic

Next week we will begin our second round of iReady testing for this school year. The mid-year check will help teachers see how students are progressing towards their growth goals. Your child's teacher will be communicating when these assessments will be taking place in the classroom. Please see this letter from our Assessment department regarding the iReady assessment tool.

During the end of November and the month of December, students in Empower will be experiencing new modules! The fifth graders will get an introduction to World Languages with our FLEX module, and our K-4 students will address a need in their community with our Make a Difference Module.

The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.

  • If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.

  • Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.

  • If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.

St. Charles Education Foundation

Over the past 30 years, the STC Ed Foundation has donated almost $1.4 million to support D303 students. Last year, at Wild Rose, we received a grant that funded mobile bookcases. The foundation also gave $10,000 to improve internet connectivity in school neighborhoods, and funded four scholarships for high school seniors. Please consider supporting this important organization by donating, giving teacher tributes, attending the spring event at Pollyanna Brewing - or all of the above!
