Georgia Line Virtual Tour
Join Columbus State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, and the University of West Georgia - online - for the inaugural Georgia Line Virtual Tour.
The Georgia Line Tour brings together three top public universities in Georgia, all located near the Alabama border, to present information sessions geared towards interested students, parents, and high school counselors. Each 30 - 45 minute information session will consist of a brief presentation by each university, followed by time for students to ask questions. The sessions are broken down into different Alabama and Georgia regions, plus an information session geared towards transfer students. We ask that you select the presentation most closely aligned with where you live to get the most relevant information, but feel free to sign up for any session that works best with your schedule.
We all look forward to telling you and your students about our wonderful universities and the opportunities that await them in the cities of Americus, Carrollton, and Columbus. Use the link below to see dates and to reserve your place. Students will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of registration that includes the Zoom link needed for your registered date.
Feel free to forward to your students, and promote this event through your counseling social media channels.
Registration for the event can be found here.

Columbus State holds steady, climbs in several U.S. News rankings
Columbus State University recently ranked No. 31 in the U.S. News & World Report’s list of top public regional universities in the South. This marks the second year in a row that CSU made it into the top 35 list.
CSU was also recognized as No. 73 among Best Regional Universities, and — for the first year ever — was recognized among the top 50 regional universities in the South for social mobility.
The social mobility ranking measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Pell Grant recipients typically come from households with family incomes less than $50,000 annually. U.S. News ranked CSU as No. 47.
Wells Fargo Foundation Supports Oxbow Meadows’ STEM Programming for Title I Schools
Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center has received a $4,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to support STEM programming at Title I schools. Wells Fargo works with nonprofits nationwide to address issues facing society, including housing affordability, financial health, small business growth, diversity and inclusion, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Oxbow Meadows will use the funds to develop remote learning activities and modules focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) for several schools located near the Learning Center in south Columbus. This project will assist K-12 educators with their critical teaching mission amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During these challenging times, it is important to provide STEM learning content that engages students and motivates them to continue learning.
CSU Program’s Success Inspires School Safety Legislation
Congressional legislation introduced yesterday by Congressman Drew Ferguson (GA03) to address school safety nationwide was largely inspired by the success of a program at Columbus State University and the expertise of CSU Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Chip Reese. “Schools like Columbus State University are leading the way and building a national model to keep our schools safe and our students successful,” wrote Ferguson in an editorial today regarding his Behavioral Intervention Guidelines Act (BIG Act). The idea for the legislation began when Ferguson reached out to CSU for input on how to keep schools safer. Reese, who helped create a behavioral intervention program at CSU in 2008, shared his expertise with Ferguson, as well as the success CSU has had using behavioral intervention.
