Lexia Reading Core5
Northwest has begun using Lexia Reading Core5 in order to provide literacy instruction for students reading below, at, and above grade level pre-K-5. Lexia's research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, and adaptive learning in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing teachers with the data and student-specific resources they need for individual or small group instruction. NWEL is excited about this new program, the data it provides teachers and staff, and how it will continue to improve reading skills across grade levels.

Box Tops
Just a friendly reminder to not drop your student off before 8:15 a.m. There is no supervision outside during that time. Students are let into the building at 8:15 a.m.
Parking Lot
Thank you for your continued patience with the volume of traffic during our drop-off and pick-up times! You are doing a fantastic job of parking in parking spaces, driving slowly in the parking lot and being timely in your efforts. We are, however, looking very closely at how we can improve this process. Our goal is to relieve the amount of traffic by brainstorming possible changes to the entrance and exits of the NWEL campus. Thank you for helping us keep Northwest the best place to be in Jackson County!
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-Off
Pick-Up
If you will be picking your child up, please make sure to send a note to the teacher, or call the office. If calling the office, please do so before 3:00 p.m. This will allow us to get lists finalized and given to the teacher. If you call after this time, your request unfortunately will not be honored. We will not pull children off the bus for late calls. You will need to meet them at the bus stop. When picking up your child please park in a designated parking spot and not along the drop-off curb. Make sure to bring a photo ID. Parents are asked to wait in the cafeteria until students are dismissed. Students will be dismissed by grade starting at 3:32 p.m on full days, and 2:27 p.m. on Early Release days. When exiting the parking lot please do not turn around in the Lansing Avenue Baptist Church parking lot.
Medicine Procedures
- Do not send any medication on the school bus. Medication could easily be taken by the wrong child when it is not monitored by an adult. It is the parent's responsibility to bring medication i to the Northwest Elementary office and check it in with a secretary.
- Cough drops are considered medication. Please do not sent cough drops with your child.
- No staff member will be permitted to dispense non-prescribed, over-the-counter (OTC) medication to any student with out a medication form filled out by a prescribing physician.
