Sept. 15th Virtual Curriculum Night
This year's curriculum night will be on Tuesday, September 15th. Naturally, this year will look different as we host a virtual curriculum night experience. The evening will begin with a brief welcome and what to look for from Dr. Arencibia promptly at 6:30. The link to the Webex is located here if you are able to join us.
On Tuesday, there will be a special edition "Virtual Curriculum Night Newsletter" that will be emailed out that day. The newsletter will have virtual videos from our teachers for you to access at your convenience that evening or later on. Also, there will be a Q&A form embedded in that newsletter for any general or specific questions.
Items to expect on the 15th:
Special email with "Virtual Curriculum Night Newsletter" embedded.
Dr. Arencibia's brief welcome Webex at 6:30pm if you are able to attend.
- Here are the step by step instructions to join CMS Virtual Curriculum Night if you run into any trouble getting on the Webex.
Teachers Screencast or Video which will provide an overview of their classes (embedded in the "Virtual Curriculum Night Newsletter").
Protocols for Athletics Spectators
Protocols for Athletics Spectators
Beginning next week, GCISD will start hosting athletics and fine arts events again. As we continue to work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19, there are new health and safety protocols that have been implemented at all athletics and fine arts facilities.
According to TEA and UIL guidelines, all GCISD venues hosting athletics and fine arts events are limited to 50 percent capacity. All spectators attending GCISD athletics and fine arts events are required to follow these GCISD protocols:
- Wear a mask or face covering throughout the event. Hand sanitizing stations will be available for public use.
- Socially distance from other spectators and leave the event as soon as your child’s competition is over.
- Purchase a ticket online. No tickets will be sold at the gate and no coach's or district passes will be accepted.
- Self-screen for symptoms of COVID-19 before attending an event and stay home in exhibiting any. A list of signs and symptoms can be found in the GCISD Fall 2020 Draft Guide.
More specific information for each type of facility, including ticketing, concessions and more, can be found on our Athletics/Fine Arts Health and Safety Protocols page.
A video explaining procedures specific to high school gyms can be watched now (also linked below). Videos for other facilities, including Mustang Panther Stadium, will be available as those facilities get closer to hosting events.
Picture Information & Retakes
A re-take picture date is being coordinated with our vendor as they are limited with their dates due to their current constraints. When the date/time is established, it will be communicated in advance as usual to give all Colts an opportunity to plan ahead of time.
Attention Remote Learners: Science Packets
We intended to have science packets available for remote students to pick up when they came for picture day. Unfortunately they were not ready to distribute yet as most science classes are not to the point in the curriculum where they will be used. The packets will be available on a future date or provided electronically for all students (both in-person and remote). There is nothing that all students currently need with those that won't be received via Canvas in class.

Counselor Corner For The Week Of September 14 - 18
8th Grade Parents - Mark your calendars! There will be an 8th Grade Parent Meeting through WebEx on Tuesday, October 6th at 6 p.m.
Middle school counselors are excited to start high school planning with current 8th grade students. This future planning is in accordance with Texas House Bill 5. In order to begin this decision-making process, all 8th grade parents are invited to our WebEx event on Tuesday, October 6th at 6 p.m. to learn exactly what the planning entails. Middle school counselors will present to families about endorsements, four year plans, and more. Plus, high school counselors will be present for support and to help answer your questions.
After this meeting, middle school counselors will begin meeting individually with 8th grade students to create their high school 4 year plans. Individual planning will be complete by the end of January. The classes that students select for their freshman year will automatically roll over in Skyward and become their 9th grade course selections. However, every 8th grade student will have the opportunity to make changes with the high school counselors in the spring before their course selections are finalized. We look forward to visiting with our 8th grade families on October 6th!
Credit By Exam
Students, in grades 6 through 12, currently enrolled in GCISD can receive credit for an academic course or subject area, in which the student has had no prior instruction, with a passing score of 80% or higher on an exam approved by the district’s Board of Trustees. Information and registration form can be found on GCISD's website. Click Here for CBE Info and Registration
Changing Your Instructional Model
This information was shared with GCISD families last week, but in case you missed it, the district provided the following guidelines for changing your student(s) instructional model:
Switching from In-Person to Remote Learning
Families are able to switch from in-person to remote learning at any point during the school year. In order to make this change, please email your child’s counselor (their email addresses are listed below).
Switching from Remote to In-Person Learning
Families that are wishing to change from remote to in-person learning may only do so at the end of a grading period. The process for changing to in-person learning requires parents to complete a Google form that will be shared by your child’s campus prior to the end of the nine-week grading period. Below is a schedule of when the form will become available, when the form must be received by the campus, and when the change will go into effect:
To change after the first nine weeks, parents must complete the form between
September 20 and October 5. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on October 19.
To change after the second nine weeks, parents must complete the form between
November 15 and December 7. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on January 6.
To change after the third nine weeks, parents must complete the form between
February 14 and March 1. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on March 22.

Character Strong
Our district has adopted Character Strong as a way to support the social/emotional wellbeing and character development of our students. All GCISD secondary campuses will be focusing on the character trait/skill of COMMITMENT for the month of September. Students will view the newest character video in school at the beginning of each month. We want to encourage you to also view it together as a family and find ways to work on the monthly trait/skill together. September Commitment Video
Also, as we build a strong connection with our community to support social emotional wellness, we will continue to share out the Family Character Dares for an extension into your home. Here is the latest!
