The Leopard Tale
October-2019
Principal's Points
Andre’ Families,
Happy October! It has certainly been a busy month at Andre’ thus far. We had a fabulous turn-out for our Watch D.O.G.S.Pizza Night and can’t wait for all our Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers. The time spent with our students each day sends a strong message of our home/school/community partnership. We appreciate you!
We are also grateful for our amazing PTO for supporting our campus in countless ways. Our first annual mother/son game night was a huge success. Kiddos enjoyed basketball, sack races with our Cy-Springs Panther Basketball team, life-sized connect four, minute-to-win it challenges, and super hero photo opportunities, just to name a few. PTO is also kicking off our fall fundraiser, Big Kahuna, and later in the week, is sponsoring a McDonald’s Spirit Night. Last year, we raised more money at our McDonald’s spirit night than any other Cy-Fair school. “We’ve Got Spirit, yes we do, we’ve got spirit, how ‘bout you!” We are so lucky to have such a dedicated PTO who is always thinking ahead for fabulous ideas to make our school great. They truly are the backbone to our success! Make sure you plan now to attend the next PTO event in November: Movie Night. It’s always a favorite!
Another “not-to-be-missed” event is Bring Your Parent to School Day. This will be an opportunity for you to witness first-hand what a typical lesson looks like for your child. Teachers love this day because you will get a good feel for what a math mini lesson looks like, or what happens during shared writing. Hearing the language that teachers use and seeing the strategies they share will equip you with the knowhow to reinforce learning when having conversations with your Leopard at home. We can’t wait to show off our super powers!
Bring Your Parents to School Days
We would like to invite you to “Bring Your Parents to School Day."
This exciting event will be:
· Tuesday, October 15th for AM/PM PK/PPCD, Kindergarten and 1st grades.
· Thursday, October 17th for 2nd-5th grades and LifeSkills.
This is an opportunity for you to see what a typical day at school is like for students. If you would like to attend, please fill out the RSVP form and return it to your child’s teacher. We will send home your sign-in sticker with your child on the day before the event. Due to the importance of preserving the instructional environment, as well as giving you the optimal experience, this special day is for parents only. No siblings or stroller-age children will be admitted.
Due to our unique parking lot, we are unable to accommodate lunch visitors on these days. Please select another day to eat lunch with your child. Keeping in mind that this observation experience has been designed for you to see instructional expertise, no time will be available for parent questions or conferences. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher any needs to schedule additional conferences. Thank you for your understanding of our learning environment.
News You Need to Know
Fall Portrait Day
All students will be photographed for our yearbook on Wednesday, October 16th. Be sure to have your child wear something colorful on Portrait day, and avoiding white clothing. Lifetouch order forms will be sent home soon. Order forms must be turned in, or an online order needs to be processed, on or before October 16th.
Andre’ Apple Night and Title I Meeting Updates
We were so excited to see the huge turnout at our Apple Nights/Title I meetings on September 10th and September 17th. Your attendance and support of your child’s school is greatly appreciated, as we form partnerships for your child’s success.
Notice to Parents
As a parent of a student at a campus receiving Title I funds, federal law allows you to ask for information about the certification, college major, and advanced degrees of your child’s teacher(s). You also have the right to request information about the qualifications of a teacher aide or paraprofessional providing direct services to your child. If you would like to receive this information, you may contact the Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. Human Resources Department at 281-897-4099.
Counselors' Corner
October’s Core Essential Value is Courage – being brave enough to do what you should, even when you’re afraid.
Ask your child:
- Think about times that you have been afraid. Who have you talked to about it? Did you talk with your parents or a teacher, or a friend? What advice did they give you?
- Has there ever been a time that you can think of that you were extremely brave? Discuss this example and how you were able to have courage.
Horizon's Information
It is now the HORIZONS Open Referral Period (October 1- November 30, 2019). Those interested in referring students should review the information on the District Website Horizon’s page (link below).

Birthday Book Club: Honor your child’s birthday by selecting a new book from the library by joining the Birthday Book Club. For more information, see the form attached to the newsletter.
Help Wanted: We need assistance with several special projects in the library. If interested, please email Mrs. Mangum at shelli.mangum@cfisd.net.
Notes from the front desk
Lunch Visitors
Please limit your lunch visits with your child to one time per week. We have close to 1000 students and want to make sure we have space for all parents who would like to eat lunch with their children. A note is required from a guardian for anyone other than a guardian to have lunch with your child.
Absences
If your child is absent, please send a note on the first day of your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. Thank you.
Transportation Changes
If a child’s end-of-day transportation changes, the parent/guardian must send a note with the date, necessary changes and parent/guardian signature. If a note is not received, the usual method of transportation will be followed.
For safety purposes, no changes will be made after 3:30 P.M. and PHONE CALLS or E-MAILS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.

PTO
Hello Andre’ Families!
We are off to a great start for this school year! Thank you so much for all the support! We currently have 153 families registered as members of the PTO. We are trying to get 100% participation. Let’s make it happen Andre’!
Volunteers are essential to any successful PTO, but as a member, you are not obligated to attend meetings or volunteer. By joining the PTO, your $15 membership fee, as well as funds raised from fundraising, spirit nights, donations and volunteer hours, goes towards classroom parties, buses for field trips, STEM programs, Family Fun Nights, teacher grants and our newest project for 2019- some NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. Please consider joining the PTO! Joining the PTO also allows us to build our partnership between the community, families and Andre’ staff. We look forward to the continued support from returning families and meeting all the new Andre’ Elementary School families.
Below you will find information of upcoming events and ways for you to get involved. Please feel free to reach out to the PTO Board if you have any questions or if you would like to become a member.
Sincerely,
Andre’ Elementary PTO Board
