The Tigers are coming off a 56-7 home loss to DeSoto. They are playing for pride after being eliminated from playoff contention.

Cedar Hill, ranked 24th nationally by maxpreps.com, is 13-4 after bye weeks, since 2004, including a 27-17 win at Aledo on October 16.

The Tigers are led by senior running back Donerio Davenport (733 yards and 10 touchdowns) and quarterback Hunt Young (740 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions).

The Longhorns and Tigers have four common opponents this year – Arlington, DeSoto, Duncanville and Waxahachie. Cedar Hill is 3-1 against those teams, while Mansfield is 0-4. Duncanville, the #2 team in Class 6A, is the only team to have defeated both Cedar Hill and Mansfield this season.

Toughest Schedule in the State

Every non-district opponent on the schedule made the playoffs last season, and it didn’t get any easier last week when the Lady Longhorns (3-4) visited preseason #16 Denton Guyer (4-2).

Cedar Hill trailed 26-21 at halftime and lost 53-48, after being within two points late in the game. Portia Adams matched her career-high with 25 points, accounting for more than half of the team’s points. Cailan Hale and Jadyn Atchison added six and five points, respectively.

The game was a rematch of Cedar Hill’s 48-47 win over Denton Guyer in the regional semifinals last season.

Cedar Hill returned home and was competitive with undefeated Allen for a half (24-22 at halftime), but the Lady Eagles (4-0) outscored the Lady Longhorns, 32-19, in the second half.

Atchison finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Carolynn Washington had seven points. Adams and Hale scored six points apiece.

Non-District Schedule Continues

The Lady Longhorns visit Lancaster (3-2) at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. It will be the second time Cedar Hill has faced a Class 5A opponent this season. The first time this season resulted in a 70-68 double overtime win at Red Oak.

After a 3-0 start, Lancaster lost consecutive games to Humble Summer Creek (65-47) and Mansfield Lake Ridge (of 6A-11), 71-60.

Lancaster reached the third round of the 5A playoffs last season.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Hill hosts Dallas Skyline. The Lady Raiders are 3-1 with victories over Dallas Lincoln (76-59), Rowlett (78-37) and South Oak Cliff (69-58). Their only loss came against Allen (51-39) last week.
