Does WiFi in School cause or cure behavioral problems?
Introduction: Why are we asking this question?
· Nearly one in five high school age boys in the United States and 11 percent of school-age children over-all have received a medical diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, according to new data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
· ADHD has historically been estimated to affect 3 to 7 percent of children – the jump to 11% seems dramatic. The disorder has no definitive test and is determined only subjective observations – which, of course, can be flawed. Rising numbers could be the result of more attention being given to the issue, misdiagnosis and a tendency to report any type of behavior as abnormal if they’re not just sitting quietly at desk.
· Diagnosis for High-school aged teens is especially high – up to 19% for boys and 10% for girls. One thing that is true of most high-school aged kids these days is that they are constantly plugged in – to their cell phone, laptop, Wi-Fi, games etc. The younger kids are rapidly catching up as well with a large number having their own cell phones as well.
Is WiFi helping or hurting our kids? It depends who you ask.....
All is well on the bus.
WiFi has been added to school buses to curb bad behavior, and its working! Kids sit and work on their iPads/notebooks. They are typing instead of fighting. This is good! It’s turning the bus into a study hall! Read more:http://spectrum.ieee.org/riskfactor/computing/it/wifi-on-a-school-bus-to-solve-behavior-problems-seems-to-work-in-arizona
More kids are becoming electromagnetically sensitive.
Electromagnetic radiation has been linked to ADD/ADHD as well as the autism syndrome. Some kids are also getting physically sick from exposure to it. Many parents are seeing their children struggle with school work despite good nutrition and caring parents. Recent scientific studies* warn pregnant mothers to keep a cell phone as far away from their body as possible. Animals studies suggest conditions like ADD/ADHD may be related to exposure to cell phones while in utero (Yale School of Medicine Study).
Are there any non-drug solutions for children with ADD/ADHD? John’s Story
Just a few days ago I read a storycalled “testimonial from a mother whose son had ADD/ADHD”. This boy was seriously disruptive in class. His problems started at age two - watching television resulted in temper tantrums the following day. “For six years, we had reports from the teachers that our son, “John” now almost 10 years old, was difficult to handle at school. He required a disproportionate amount of their attention and had a lot of behaviors that looked like ADD or ADHD.” Five weeks after wearing a BioElectric Shield, his mother reports that he’s no longer having problems in school and their home is much calmer as well. The behavioral counselor was impressed with the change and told them to keep doing whatever it is they are doing.
I asked myself, why did this work?
Children’s brains are much thinner and absorb EMF up to 60% more than an adult, in younger children the radio wave penetrates almost through their entire brain! It turns out that protecting John’s brain was really, really important to his ability to concentrate. (Read more about WiFi in Schools called by many “The Cigarette of the 21st Century”).
In the long term your children’s exposure is much greater than yours. By the time they are adults, many of today’s children will already have used their phones or been exposed to WiFi for 20 years. Studies are showing that usage over ten-years greatly increases risk…we have no idea what the ramifications are of usage almost from birth!
With some studies showing WiFi and Cell phones related to ADD/ADHD and Aspergers**, and others showing that giving kids WiFi even on the bus may curb behavioral problem the choices become even harder to make.
Do the benefits of WiFi out weight the potential for harm?
Therein lies much of the problem, exposure is cumulative much like Tobacco and Asbestos. If some kids are getting sick or experiencing behavioralor focus issues already, just imagine what the effects of another 10-20-30 years of exposure might be.
Take steps to reduce your children’s exposure as much as possible.
· If they talk on the mobile phone, have them use the speaker phone
· Limit time with computer games
· Encourage outside play (instead of game play) on a daily basis
· No cellphones while having meals
