Reading

We continued our unit on making connections and inferences. To make an inference means that you are "reading between the lines" in a piece of text. You use evidence from the text and what you already know to determine what the author did not write in words. This is a difficult skill, but a necessary one as we look toward ISTEP.

Reading Homework: Practice the sight words and fluency passage being sent home today. Return the fluency passage for 5 points towards your child's reading grade.

Homework Helps and Hints

As we move to more difficult work and prepare for 3rd grade ISTEP, I am putting a HUGE emphasis on accuracy. Often students just get in a big hurry to finish and then don't read all the directions, answer choices, or fail to answer all of the questions. This is part of being accurate- many times they can get the answers correct when we review their missed work because they just weren't being accurate or thinking about it clearly the first time. As we adults know, there are MANY times a day that we just don't get more than one chance to do something. This is what our kiddos need to realize- that doing your best and being accurate is something you have to do everyday all day long because most of the time you get one chance to get it as right as you can.
