FHS Buzz
HOSA International Leadership Conference Results
The 2018 HOSA International Leadership Conference was held in Dallas, Texas from June 27-June 30, 2018. We had three students who competed in this conference and their results are below.
- Marissa Bachynsky—1st Place in Health Career Display
- Mikhaila Bachynsky—1st Placed in Health Career Display
- Alison Tang—Placed in the top 10 in Dental Terminology
We also had a student receive the Barbara James Service Award, which is an award for medical related volunteer hours. The student below received the silver level, which is 175-249 hours.

The students had a great week, networking and connecting with students from all over the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and American Samoa. The students are also very excited about placing first in the ILC Conference. Congratulations, students!
FCCLA Student Success at Nationls
The following students competed in Atlanta for the FCCLA National Competition June 28-July 3. They competed in the Food Innovations Competition. These students did an awesome job and received a gold medal! We are very proud of them!

Washington DC Leadership Conference
Congratulations to MCS student Ashley Giles on earning her SkillsUSA Washington Leadership Training Institute statesman pin at the 2018 WLTI in Washington, DC. In addition to the leadership training she received, Ashley and the other SkillsUSA Texas District 9 officers met with congressional staffers for Randy Weber and Michael Cloud at the US Capitol to advocate on behalf of Career/Technical Education and Perkins funding. Ashley is the first FHS student to make this trip.
Clear Falls Speech/Debate meet results
This past September, the Friendswood Forensics (the FHS Speech & Debate team) attended the Clear Falls HS tournament. We finished 5th out of 24 schools. This is a great result considering 16 of our 24 students were competing in their first tournament. Individual results were:

Kingwood HS Debate meet results
FHS Speech and Debate competed at the Kingwood High School tournament on Sept 28th & 29th finishing 7th out of 26 schools. Individual winners were:

- Klye Flick--4th place Foreign Extemp & 9th place Congressional Debate

Jazz Ensemble
Congratulations to Evan Stepcyk and Keshav Ramchandran for making the region 17 jazz ensembles at ACC. Evan(trumpet) made 1st chair in the 2nd jazz ensemble and Keshav(drums) made 2nd chair 1st jazz ensemble, which is also the Area jazz ensemble. Keshav will get to enter a taped audition for the All-State jazz ensemble in October. They will both also be performing in a clinic and concert in Clute in mid-November!
Drumline & Front Ens.
Congratulations to the FHS Drumline and Front Ensemble for capturing 1st Place in the Advanced Small School division at the Seven Lakes HS Drumline contest. The group also won best snare line, tenor line, cymbal line and front ensemble in their division!
Seussical the Musical
Friendswood High School Theatre had their first production of the school years this past September, Seussical the Musical. The show follows an award-winning musical written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty which adapts numerous famous Dr. Seuss books including “The Cat in the Hat” and “Horton Hears a Who!” into one cohesive tale. “The story explores and expresses timeless human themes of family and friendship, loyalty and generosity, and the power and inspiration of imagination,” Kathy Powdrell, FHS theatre director, said. “I believe that is the best message I can give to my students and our community at this time.”
The cast includes Eric Jensen as The Cat, Michael Donovan as Horton, Taylor Greny as Gertrude, Isabella Morrison as Maize the Lazy Bird and Gracen McGregor as JOJO.

Athletic Leadership Council
The Friendswood Athletic Leadership Council had its' inaugural meeting this past week. Coach Koopmann has organized a representative from each of our sports to meet with our Athletic Department administrators in a round table atmosphere. Our vision for this group is to offer our student athlete a "voice" for each other, their respective sport, and the betterment of our athletic department. This a great group of young people and we are excited about collaborating with each sport through out the year.

All three volleyball teams remain undefeated in district play and stand at 6-0. The second round of district begins soon and playoffs will start at the end of October.
