Personal Information
Walter "Walt" Disney was born on December 5th, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. He lived most of his childhood in Marceline, Missouri. That is where Disney began painting, drawing and selling pictures to his family and friends. In 1911, his family moved to Kansas City, where Disney developed a love for trains. Disney attend McKinley High School in Chicago. He took drawing and photography classes and was a contributing cartoonist for the school newspaper. When Disney was 16 he dropped out of high school to join the army, but was rejected for being underage. He then joined the Red Cross and was sent to France for a year to drive an ambulance.
Educational Background
When Disney returned from France in 1919 he moved back to Kansas City to pursue a career as a newspaper artist. Disney never attended a college but worked at the Kansas City Film Company where he made commercials based on animations.
Work Background
Before Disney created his company Disney and his first employee Fred Harman made a deal with a local Kansas City theater to screen their cartoons which they called Laugh-O-Grams. By 1923 the studio had become burned with debt, and Disney was forced to declare bankruptcy. Disney and his brother Roy then moved to Hollywood. They began a Disney Brothers' Studio. Their first deal was with New York distributor Margaret Winkler, to distribute their Alice cartoons. In 1925, Disney hired an ink-and-paint artist named Lillian Bounds, who shortly after married Disney.
Company History
The company of the Disney Land theme park opened in the summer of 1955. The site became known as a place where children and their families could explore, take rides and meet Disney characters. Disney also produced and created many Disney movies which introduced the Disney World characters the families could meet. The park invested and was entertaining people from all over the world. Disney Land expanded its rides and branched out globally to Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.
What is Disney known for today?
Today Disney is known for the cartoon creation of the famous Mickey Mouse. There are many individual things that are involved with Disney in the present time. For example, Disney has created a television channel, The Disney Channel, that includes many t.v. shows as well as movies. There are now two Disney theme parks in the United States. Disney has even branched out to have Radio Disney. Disney is mostly known today for its tv broadcasts and theme parks. Disney is also famous for the well known movies such as Frozen.
What is Walt Disney known for?
Walt Disney is known for creating the famous Mickey Mouse and his short film called Steamboat Wille. Walt was the voice of Mickey Mouse in the film. However, other silent films of Mickey failed to find distribution. On December 21st, 1937, Disney released the animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which premiered in Los Angeles. In 1950 Disney released other movies such as Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and 101 Dalmatians. Disney was also among the first to use television as an entertainment medium. After a few years of opening the theme park, Disney began plans for a new theme park. While still under construction in 1966, Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died on December 15th, 1966, at the age of 65. After his death, Disney's brother Roy carried on the plans to finish the Florida theme park, which opened in 1971 under the name of Walt Disney World.
Was Disney successful?
In my opinion Walt Disney was very successful. Disney became very wealthy creating and drawing cartoons and creating them into short silent films. Disney created all of his fame by simply drawing Mickey Mouse. Disney was also apart of commercial success. Disney opened Walt Disney studios and started to create movies.
