A Note From Nurse Backhus
The beginning of the school year often brings lots of excitement, learning and germs! While our MISD Health Protocols are in place daily, I wanted to share a few reminders with parents about how we can work together to keep everyone healthy this year!
- If your student has run fever of 100 or greater, they must be 24 hours fever free without the use of fever reducing medications before they return to school.
- If your student is sick, please do not send them to school. (see self screening guidelines below)
- All students should continue to do a daily self-evaluation (or with the help of parent) prior to coming to school or boarding school transportation. Symptoms to screen for include: fever equal or over 100.0 degrees, loss of taste or smell, cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache, chills, sore throat, shaking or exaggerated shivering, significant muscle pain or ache, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.
MRE staff continues to work with students, encourage hand-washing before and after meals, and sanitize often. While masks are not required or mandated, they remain optional for any staff member or student.
I look forward to working together with our school families for a happy & healthy school year!
Please feel free to reach out to me at stacey.backhus@misd.org with any questions.
We need your help with Book Fair!
Please see the sign up to volunteer for set up or to work the book fair HERE.
Please only sign up for a slot if you've already submitted your volunteer paperwork to the front office for district approval.
What is Rainy Day Dismissal?
As we've already had a couple Rainy Day Dismissals, I wanted to explain our process to you all. We closely monitor for rain, storms, lightning and if any of those are in the forecast for the 3:30-4:00 time-frame, we make the switch to Rainy Day Dismissal. This only affects bikers/walkers and they take their 2nd mode of transportation home.
We utilize WeatherBug to make this decision, as we've found it to be the most reliable over the years! We make this decision by 3:00 and send a school-wide email, as well as text.
We know these days can be hectic, but appreciate your understanding as we act in the interest of safety for our school family!
If you plan on volunteering in any capacity this year.....
MRE Car Rider Line - Reminders
We are getting 'rolling' with car rider! Please remember to pack your patience these first few weeks as it takes us a little bit to find our groove as they say. Please see the following reminders as they help our line run smoothly and without too many hold ups.
AM Drop Off In Car Rider
- Doors are scheduled to open at 7:50, however due to the tremendous number of car riders we have, we open ours at 7:45 a.m.
- We have limited staff until 7:50, therefore students arriving between 7:45 and 7:50 need to be able to open their own car door and exit independently.
- Please have your student have their things in hand when you roll to a stop.
- Please stop when the cars in front of you stop, not when you see a staff member or certain door you wish to stop for.
- Students will need to exit the door on the right passenger side.
- Students will need to be able to unbuckle their booster and get out of the vehicle on their own (please do not put car in park and get out to get them out) If you need to stop to unbuckle, please pull up and park, unbuckle your student and walk them to the crosswalk.
- Please practice with your student being able to exit the car quickly so as not to hold up the line.
- Please be ready to pull forward to leave when the door has closed and the cars in front of you move.
- Please do not drive around the cars in front of you unless directed to do so.
- The use of cell phones, unless hands free, is prohibited in school zones.
PM Pick Up In Car Rider
- Please have your YELLOW car rider tag visible and leave it up until you've left the line
- Please stop when the cars in front of you stop, not when you see your student
- If applicable, please have your student's booster seat on the right side of the car. We will not come around to the opposite side, but will let them in on the passenger side and ask that you pull up to park if they need to switch
- Staff members will not buckle students into their seats or booster, so please pull forward to the parking spaces and park if you will need to buckle your student into a seat or booster
- Please refrain from conversations with staff members in the line
- Please do not drive around the cars in front of you unless directed to do so
- The use of cell phones, unless hands free, is prohibited in school zones.
