Principal's Pen

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! It was beautiful outside! On Friday our staff attended virtual professional development through the Menominee and Iron County Intermediate School Districts. There were seminars throughout the day on many helpful topics involving instructional practices in all subject areas as well as technology. I attended some very helpful and interesting seminars, and the teachers did as well. Days like this give our teachers a chance to recharge and learn new, helpful strategies to take back into the classroom.

This last week I had the privilege of teaching religion to the 5th through 8th graders on Tuesday and Thursday. We had some wonderful discussions about the gospel from this past Sunday. Jesus tells the parable of the wedding feast. The students and I discussed how the wedding feast represents heaven, and we have all been invited. They recognized that at their baptism, their parents accepted the invitation for them. Now, as they grow, they must say yes to the invitation themselves through the choices they make. The teachers and I are here to work with you, the primary educators of your children, to help them grow and make the right choices in saying yes to Jesus.

Timothy Erickson was caught being a Christian this week. He encouraged a classmate who was working on their reading. He was practicing the virtue of kindness. Great job, Timmy! He will receive his certificate this week, after the Wednesday school Mass.

Many thanks to all of you for your flexibility this year and all the sacrifices you are making to send your children to Bishop Baraga. We are so happy and privileged to teach your children and to be a part of their lives and yours.

Have a wonderful week!

God bless,

Angela Oller

Middle School Literature

Below you can see three of our middle school students holding the book they just finished reading in literature class - My Side of the Mountain. Our students are developing excellent literary skills and having thoughtful conversations about the author's ideas and themes. Ask some of the middle school students about the types of conflicts found in this story and you are sure to have an interesting discussion with them.

Kindergarten Apple Week

Here some of our kindergarten students pose next to their picture in the hallway. During apple week they explored apples and did math at the same time. How many apples were they able to balance on top of their head?
