Senior Obligations

The following obligations must be completed by May 20, 2021 in order to receive your cap and gown.
  1. Payment of all fees and fines. See Mrs. Doehr in the Main Office with any questions or to set up a payment plan. Please note: Prom tickets and diplomas will be held if there are outstanding fees.
  2. Return all athletic uniforms and equipment.
  3. Payment for cap and gown to Jostens.
  4. Return all required textbooks.

Cap, Gown, & Graduation Announcements from Jostens

All seniors planning to walk at Graduation must order a cap and gown from Jostens. If you missed the order days, you must call Jostens at 1-800-567-8367 ASAP.

Jostens will announce the delivery date for announcements soon. Cap and gowns are delivered at Graduation practice in the North Gym on Thursday, May 20th. School and Jostens fees must be paid in order to receive your cap and gown.

Senior Yearbook Announcements

In order to be in the yearbook, seniors must have their picture taken with Prestige Portraits. If you have not had your picture taken, contact Prestige at 440-892-4615 to schedule an appointment. The deadline for the senior portraits is January 29, 2021.

Senior yearbook recognition ads can now be purchased through February 11, 2021. Visit the Jostens website and click on "Yearbook Recognition Ads" to design and pay for your ad.

Seniors who would like their baby picture in the yearbook should email it to Mr. Rubinski at

School Fees

School fees need to be paid in full in order to attend Prom, receive your cap and gown, and to receive your diploma. Please see Mrs. Doehr, Financial Secretary, if you need to set up a payment plan.

Students taking an AP exam, must have their test fee(s) paid by February 1, 2021. The cost of each AP exam is $85.

National Testing Dates

ACT Dates (Testing is at Marion L. Steele High School):

February 6, 2021, register by 1/8

April 17, 2021, register by 3/12

June 12, 2021, register by 5/7

Amherst Schools Education Foundation Scholarships

The Counseling Department will share information in the Spring for applying for scholarships from the Amherst Schools Education Foundation.

Scholarship information can also be found on the MLS School Counseling Website.

Last Day for Seniors

The last day of classes for the Class of 2021 is Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Trimester 3 senior finals will be determined by each individual teacher and shared with students at the start of the trimester. Seniors will take the final during class time before the last day.

Mandatory Graduation Practice

There will be a MANDATORY graduation practice on Thursday, May 20th beginning promptly at 8:00 am in the North Gym. All students are expected to be on time. If you miss practice, you will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. The actual length of the practice will be determined by your cooperation. Please see Mr. Tellier and/ or Mrs. Harigan with any special circumstances.

Practice will conclude with a procession of the Class of 2021 graduates from Steele to Nord Middle School. After the walk at Nord, students will receive a police escort to AJH and walk through both the Junior High and the new Powers Elementary School. Parents are invited to view the procession to and from Nord or between AJH and Powers.

Seniors planning on attending LCCC in the fall of 2021 should register to attend a New Student Information Webinar. Register at

Prior to the webinar, we encourage students to:

  • Register for this event online
  • Submit an Online LCCC Application
  • Send ACT, SAT or Accuplacer & ALEKS Scores
  • Set up their MyCampus account & complete College Student Inventory (CSI).

Senior Prom

Saturday, May 8th, 6-11pm

It is our hope to hold Prom 2021 at Market Square at Crocker Park on May 8.

Please understand that Prom 2021 is a fluid situation and details may change based on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and state mandates.

Senior Scholastic Awards Banquet

Tuesday, May 11th, 6pm

3330 Liberty Avenue

Vermilion, OH

We hope to hold the Senior Scholastic Awards Banquet German's Villa on May 11th. A final decision will be made closer to the date.

Seniors who have earned special academic recognition or receiving an Amherst Scholarship will be invited to attend. Please carefully read the letter you receive from the Counseling Department. Invitations will be sent to students in late April along with ticket information. Tickets for the banquet must be purchased for $20.00 each for students and guests. Reservations need to be placed with your counselor. See your counselor with any questions.

Marion L. Steele High School Commencement

Saturday, May 22nd, 12pm

2000 Prospect Avenue East

Cleveland, OH

We hope to hold commencement at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center.

Doors will open at 11:00 am and the ceremony will begin promptly at 12:00 pm.

Students are expected to be there at 11:00 am.

No tickets are needed for the ceremony as there is unlimited seating.

All graduating seniors will receive one parking pass for the CSU Parking Garage.

Please plan for additional time for security to check any bags or purses. The Wolstein Center has wheelchair access. Please contact CSU for any special requests at 1-888-324-5849.

Graduation Dress

Females: Please wear a dress or nice pants, shirt and shoes. No flip-flops are allowed.

Males: Please wear nice pants, shirt, shoes, and socks. No shorts should be worn at graduation.

If you are not properly dressed, you may not be permitted to participate. Do not forget your cap, gown, tassels, and additional cords as we do not have extras.
