February Update for 14th-18th!

Black History Month work in advisory
As part of Black History Month, advisories are choosing an area of study regarding influential black figures in American history and today’s society as well as learning about important historical events. Thanks to the work of the advisory writing team, there are many resources available for teachers and students to choose from. In the advisory between Ms. Healy and I, our 8th graders listened to a podcast regarding the background of the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court decision of 1954 that included an interview with Oliver Brown’s youngest daughter, Cheryl Brown Henderson. Other advisories are choosing to research more about influential figures such Ida Wells, Gwen Ifll, Lena Waithe, Sidney Poitier and many more.

Yearbook - Order one today! Don’t get left out!
Dear Parents,
The time is nearing that we have to have our final numbers in for yearbook orders. If you would like to buy a 2021-22 yearbook for your family please follow this link to order one:
Oak hill is Job # 5955; get your order in today! We have worked hard to try and document all of the fun and learning that has been happening in school this year! During the last couple of days of school there is time built in to sign yearbooks so that all of the students may leave a message/memory for one another.
8th grade families: Surprise your graduate in the yearbook by buying an ad! Wish them well on the high school journey, put in a picture of them doing their favorite activity or even a baby pic. If you have any questions please reach out to Katy Oliver at oliverk@newton.k12.ma.us.
Arriving on time: So important for a good start!
Thanks for giving yourself some extra time and try to plan on arriving between 7:25-7:35am. Since my letter earlier this week, the tardy numbers have come down a bit; thank you for your help!
