Mr. Mauck's Musings
I would like to start this week off with the recognition of Mr. Stephen Hopf. Mr. Hopf is Jasper High School's most recent West Point Cadet Candidate . Stephen received a call from US Representative Larry Bucshon notifying him of his acceptance to the prestigious military academy. I would like to congratulate Stephen on his acceptance and thank him for his service.
Winter sports are in full swing, with Girls' Basketball already having played some great games. The girls are giving a fantastic effort and working hard. Wrestling had its challenge night where wrestlers competed to earn varsity spots at each weight class. Boys' Basketball opens the season with a scrimmage. The girls' swimming season opened with a win at the Tell City relays and the boys will begin next week.
Congratulations to Maria Buechler and Mr. Jarett Helming as they were selected as the Jasper High School student and staff member of the week. We appreciate the leadership they provide in our school climate.
The best student council in the state was super active this week. Starting last Sunday with a fall service day. The kids donated three hours to help with outdoor yard work in the community. The Freshman class won the bulletin board competition for November. The entire council served Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday to the student body. Finally, Mrs. Ferguson organized a Countywide food drive, partnering with the other DuCo schools. If you would like to make a donation please bring it to school from 7:30-2:30 before Dec. 9th. All food will be donated to the Dubois County Food Bank.
Keeping with the same spirit of philanthropy we have several other projects going on with our student groups. The FFA is working to collect new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots drive. The JAG class is sponsoring an Angel Tree here at JHS. Our HOSA program is collecting for a family in need this Christmas season. I would also like to remind everyone that Kotz4Kidz is collecting winter coats. Please see the flier below.
All school pictures were delivered to the homeroom teachers last week to be handed out. There were a few late orders dropped off at the beginning of this week, but parents should have all orders by now.
I will not be sending out a newsletter next week so I wish everyone a safe, and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. What is better than family, food, and a time to reflect on the things we are all thankful.
Quote of the Week
You become unstoppable when you work on things that people can't take away from you. Things like your mindset, character, personality, transparency, your entire being.

BOOK BANTER FROM YOUR LIBRARY
News from your JHS Library!!
Heads up!! The printer has been moved to the desks where the desktop computers are located.
There is now a puzzle table in the library quietly to piece together!
Also, ask me about our used BOOK SALE!! We have many good, used books for sale. $1.00 for hardback books and $.50 for paperback books.
One more thing: there is now a packet listing books similar to Neal Shusterman's books. While not all are currently available, they will be ordered in January. You can look in the public library as well.
November’s contest is to sign a star in recognition of our veterans and then submit a slip guessing how many books are in our library. You can participate in honoring our veterans by stopping the library and signing a star. You may still participate in this contest
November is also Native American Heritage month. Thank you to Mrs. Fierst for sharing an authentic Native American dress to display.
Please be encouraged not to skip checking your selection out at the front desk. And please be certain to return your books. Books are expensive to purchase. For each lost/missing copy that has to be replaced, fewer brand new titles can be purchased.
Happy Reading!!
