Sierra Verde Weekly Update

May 14, 2021

The Home Stretch

We are down to the last four days of the 2020-21 school year! Our Vipers are continuing to wrap up projects, give presentations, launch rockets, build mini golf courses, code drones, and complete finals as we head into the last week! We would like to congratulate our newest NJHS members who were inducted this week as well as our cross country team and Coach O'Berry on a great season this year!

We would like to remind everyone that next week 8th grade promotion will be streamed on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. This link will be only for our 8th grade families as we do have a cap on the number of participants on our zoom license. 8th grade parents, please watch your email on Monday for the login details. The promotion ceremony will be recorded and posted to our website on Thursday for anyone to view on demand. 8th graders will be released at 11:45 on Wednesday and will not attend on Thursday.

K-7th grade students will have a full day on Wednesday and a 1/2 day on Thursday with a 12:05 pm release (or 11:45 for walkers). Last day for backpacks is Wednesday, please do not send students with a backpack on Thursday. Our offices will close early on Thursday at 3:30 pm and will resume normal hours on Friday.

Limited Yearbooks Available

A very limited quantity of yearbooks are available for purchase for $35. You can now create an online account on our website and scroll to the yearbook sales to purchase online. We only have about 30 yearbooks, so get your order in ASAP if you want one

DVUSD Face Covering Update

Last week, DVUSD sent an update to all parents regarding facemask expectations starting June 7. This policy DOES NOT affect the 20-21 school year in anyway, as facemasks will continue to be required through June 6 for all staff, students, and visitors on campus.

PTSO Update

Last night we had our final PTSO meeting of the year and we are excited to announce our 21-22 PTSO Board.

  • President: Tara Astgen
  • Vice President: John Cover
  • Treasurer: Shannon Hoyt
  • Secretary: Amanda Balart

Congratulations to our newly elected board, and they will be busy planning for another great year to begin in July.

21-22 School Supply Lists

Our school supply lists are now available for next year. This link is also posted to our website for you to view at anytime.

Lost & Found Cleanout

Please have your son/daughter check out the lost and found next week for any missing belongings. After May 19, we will donate all leftover clothing or belongings still on campus. The lost and found rack will be out in the courtyard for students to browse through Wednesday.

Summer Medication Pick Up

Nurse Lynn wants to remind all of those families that have medication in the nurse’s office that it must be picked up by an adult no later than Wednesday, May 19th at 3:30 pm. We do not keep any medication over the summer. Any medication not picked up will be destroyed after the pick up date.

Please feel free to Nurse Lynn with any questions or concerns, and have a wonderful summer!

21-22 Schedules

PowerSchool currently shows schedules for the next school year. We considere these a working draft, and we hope they remain fairly consistent over the summer. Every year there is movement due to withdrawals and new registrations, and therefore we don't make them official until July. Please note that we will not be changing or adjusting any class lists until July and changes will only be made to balance numbers.

Mountain Ridge HS Basketball Summer Camp

Summer is approaching and Mountain Ridge High School is starting their summer camps. Boys Basketball is having a camp for students entering 3rd grade - 9th grade. If your son is interested in learning/playing basketball please read the attached flier. Physicals are NOT required for the camp.

MRHS Hosting Physicals for 21-22 Athletics

Mountain Ridge High School is hosting an event with MVP Orthopedics to offer physicals at their location for $25. New physicals will be needed for any student that wishes to play sports next year at Sierra Verde or Mountain Ridge High School. Physicals dated April 2021 or later are acceptable for next year's sports seasons. See the file below for information and registration.

A Message from DVUSD

DVUSD Families! This is an exciting time for DVUSD as we transition to a more formalized online student record system. From the DVUSD website, Parents will now be able to submit online registrations for their new to the district students and upload the necessary supporting documents.

Later this summer, parents of returning students will be able to electronically verify current medical and emergency contact information and update any changes for their student(s) that are currently enrolled. In order to access these important yearly documents, parents will have to have a PowerSchool Parent account set up. ALL PARENTS who HAVE NOT already created a PowerSchool Parent account, NEED TO DO SO ASAP!

This electronic process will replace some of the paperwork that we send home on the first few days of school. We will be sending home PowerSchool Parent Account setup instructions with students. If you need help after receiving the set up instructions or would like to request the instructions, please contact Mariana.Bennett@dvusd.org for details.
