A Message From the Superintendent
On September 28, 2020, the Spring Hill Board of Trustees approved a 4 1/2 days per week instructional calendar. The vision of Spring Hill ISD is to be a premier school district focused on engaged learning and student success.The action taken by the board is an aggressive step to assure that we continue striving to make this vision a reality.
Students are successful when their teachers are equipped for success when they enter the classroom. Providing this additional planning time will allow teachers the opportunity to prepare meaningful lessons leading to enhanced student engagement. We are confident this new calendar will allow teachers the opportunity to cover the content of a traditional calendar.
We surveyed parents concerning whether they were in favor of this calendar change. From the responses we received, 89% were in favor of the new calendar.
October 9th will be our first half-day Friday for all campuses. Campuses will provide afternoon instruction for those students needing to stay with us for the entire day which ends at 3:25. We will provide transportation at mid-day and again at 3:25 for these students. Friday schedules for the campuses will be as follows:
Primary: Tutorials 7:30 - 7:45; Instruction 7:45 am - 12:20 pm
Intermediate: Tutorials 7:30 - 7:45; Instruction 7:45 am - 12:15 pm
Junior High: Tutorials 8:00 - 8:15; Instruction 8:15 am - 12:53 pm
High School: Tutorials 8:15 - 8:30; Instruction 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Monday through Thursday schedules will remain the same on all campuses, with the exception of the High School. Beginning on Monday, October 5th, the High School will have tutorials from 8:15 to 8:30 with 1st period classes beginning at 8:30.

Attention Parents of Special Education Students
Parents of Special Education Students,
The Division of Review and Support at the Texas Education Agency is seeking input from parents of special education students. Please take 10 minutes to complete this survey. The survey will ask which region your district is located. Spring Hill ISD is part of Region 7. Thank you for your participation.
The Division of Review and Support at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) strives to improve special education services for Texas local education agencies (LEAs). The monitoring process is intended to help school districts continuously improve services and facilitate positive student outcomes. As a stakeholder involved in special education, your feedback is important to inform our process development.
State monitoring activities include investigating, reporting and correcting federal or state non- compliance of special education policies and procedures. Monitoring activities may include a district self-assessment, an on-site visit or other activities by the TEA.
Your district participated the special education the Differentiated Monitoring and Support process. Please provide feedback through this 10-20-minute survey. This information is vital to our ability to provide information to LEAs concerning their monitoring results.
The purpose of this survey is to gather information and revise support for all districts in Texas. Any comments or concerns specific to your district should be sent directly to your school district personnel as specific concerns will not be forwarded from TEA to districts.
Confidentiality of Data
Your responses will only be reviewed internally to assist TEA with the monitoring process. The information you share is confidential to the extent permitted by law. Responses to the survey may be subject to public information requests in accordance with the Public Information Act. Texas Government Code, Chapter 552.

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You may decline to answer any question and you have the right to withdraw from participation at any time.

Spotlight on New Career and Technology Courses ~ ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY PATHWAY
Be Prepared. Not just the motto for the Boy Scouts of America, but also for the Career and Technology Education Department at SHHS. Course offerings are constantly changing to adapt to the changing needs of this community in regards to market needs to make sure that every Panther walks across the stage college and/or career ready by offering Dual Credit with local colleges, Industry-Based Certifications, and real work experience so that students can go straight from high school into high skill, high wage, and high demand jobs. One such need area in East Texas is in the Electrical Trade. SHISD has responded to that need with an Electrical Technology Pathway taught by Mr. Tim Marshall, new to SHISD this year. Marshall also coaches baseball in addition to teaching CTE courses.
“My goal is to get kids ready to go out into the world and get a job,” Tim Marshall said. “ I worked in this field for over 10 years. I know marketable skills and am ready to hand them on.”
Spring Hill is committed to working with the Longview Economic Development Committee (LEDCO) and other industry partners to provide students with project-based learning, facility tours, job shadowing, career development, and real-life experiences.
“We’re trying to work out a system where the kids can take this course, and then go work for local community partners,” Marshal said. “Let’s say they’re juniors and they will be entering phase two of coursework as seniors, then they can work during the summer to see if they even like it. It is job exploration as well as preparation.”
According to Marshall, students in Electrical Technology learn the skills needed to enter the workforce as an electrician or building maintenance supervisor, prepare for a postsecondary degree in a specified field of construction or construction management, or pursue an approved apprenticeship program.
“This class gets them ready not only for work but also to be a good homeowner and fix-it person around the house,” Marshall added. “They learn anything from new construction schematics and wiring to fixing a plug in their home to working for Swepco.”
Students are taught safety, electrical theory, tools, codes, installation of electrical equipment, and the reading of electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
“The kids are so diligent about following the safety protocols,” Marshall boasted. “I am proud of how seriously they are taking this class and safety.”
There are a variety of possible careers in this field including Chief Electrician, Control Electrician, Electrician, Industrial Electrician, Inside Wireman, Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Wireman, Maintenance Electrician, and mechanical Trades Specialist to name a few.
“After this class kids can go on an interview and say, Hey, I took two years of electrical technology. You know I had this kind of experience. “, Marshall added. “That’s cool that what we are teaching can benefit them,”
