Principals Note
Hello Coyote Families!
Things have changed dramatically since I last reached out just after conferences with Governor Evers closing all Wisconsin schools. I am so incredibly proud of how our Creekside staff came together to shift to distance learning. I am also grateful to you (our families) who showed up to pick up learning materials, familiarized yourselves with Seesaw and dug in with helping your children find their “new normal” in distance learning all while probably experiencing a lot of adult stressors during this unprecedented time. Your support during this transition has been extraordinary. We could not have accomplished what we did without our entire Creekside village working together.
Now that we know distance learning will continue beyond April, 3rd, as a district, we have made some adjustments to what distance learning will look like. Please read the remainder of this message for more information. I know a lot of communication has come to you the last few weeks. I appreciate you all staying engaged with us as we all figure out how to navigate this uncharted territory. #ItTakesAVillage #TheCoyoteWay
Sincerely,
Jillian Block
Creekside Principal
Distance Learning Schedule
Distance Learning Schedule beginning April 6 until In-Person Instruction Resumes
As you know, we planned our first seven days of distance learning from March 19-20 and March 30-April 3. As information from the state has evolved and the district has reviewed best practice in distance learning, the following schedule has been developed. We will begin following this schedule April 6th. The Instruction & Conferring/Check-In Days are explained below.
Instruction Days
Instruction Days
- The focus of our learning content will be READING, WRITING, MATH, MUSIC, ART & PE. Those are the areas we will be grading on the second semester report card aka the “must do” work.
Specials teachers will be giving assignments on the following schedule below.
Learning during instruction days can/should be both (although both are not required on any given day)…
Synchronous learning - students (in whole or small groups) meeting to discuss learning at the same time. (eg: Zoom meeting)
Asynchronous learning - learning objectives and standards are shared with students and families. Students engage in learning on their own time. Interaction with learning objects can include reflection, response or answers to questions.
Teachers will give feedback on student work throughout the week
Teachers will hold office hours on Tuesdays-Thursdays for students/families that have more immediate/complicated questions to talk through. All teachers will have their office hours and the best way to reach them available for you on the weekly lesson planning document they will share each Tuesday morning.
Conferring and Check In Day
Teachers will…
Contact families/students who have not engaged during the week
Enter weekly attendance for students who have engaged in distance learning
Review remaining work submitted and provide feedback to students
Check-in individually with homeroom or caseload students
Zoom
Zoom is a video conferencing tool teachers can use to connect with students and families. For a quick overview of Zoom for you and your student, check out these slides.
Also, here are Guidelines for Families and Guidelines for Students to keep in mind when having a Zoom meeting.

SPASD Family Guidance for Student Attendance/Engagement
During Distance Learning
We are committed to providing equitable access and opportunity for all students to engage in Distance Learning. We know that Distance Learning will be asynchronous and our student engagement tracking methods will honor this.
Our rationale for tracking engagement is two fold:
To make sure the basic needs of our learners are being met
To make sure that each student has the ability to access learning in a way that is workable for them
Student attendance will be documented in Infinite Campus through March 12. There will be no official count for distance learning days for the remainder of 3rd Quarter or for 4th Quarter.
We will switch from traditional attendance tracking to monitoring student engagement during 4th Quarter Distance Learning Days. Student engagement will be logged weekly on Thursdays or Fridays.
Evidence of student engagement may include:
Evidence of logging onto distance learning site
Completion of assignments/artifacts
Participation in virtual discussion
Contact with teacher via email or online platform
Student logs/journals of their learning
Contact with teacher via phone call or other means to discuss learning
Documentation in Infinite Campus:
Students/Families who meet any of the conditions outlined above on any given day during a 1 week period will be marked as present/engaged in IC for that week. Engagement will be logged every Thursday or Friday, based upon the student’s interactions for that week.

2020 Census
Consider taking the Census with your student(s) so they can see what the process looks like.
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau undertakes a mammoth task: counting all the people residing in the United States. This count affects the allocation of funding for our community’s public resources (e.g., roads, hospitals, schools), how we plan for the future, and our voice in government.
