The CCSD family mourns the sudden passing of educator Josh Sampson. Mr. Sampson was a proud 1991 graduate of CSHS and served the Jaguar family for over 17 years as an English teacher and Master Scheduler.

The popular educator was selected as the school's 2016-17 Teacher of the Year. Ever-present in the hallways of Cedar Shoals, Mr. Sampson motivated students, and mentored teachers, counseling all to "be good to each other" and that "it takes no sacrifice of spirit to lighten the load of those around you."

Our community will greatly miss his spirit and light. Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Sampson's family and the entire Cedar Shoals community.

A Penny Well Spent - E-SPLOST on the Ballot November 2

Clarke County residents have the opportunity to vote to continue the one-penny, Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) that would fund critical capital improvement projects across CCSD. Clarke County voters have approved E-SPLOST five times since 1997.

If approved, E-SPLOST 6 would last up to five years and is estimated to generate $120 million. Some of the planned projects include a new Clarke Middle, renovations at Cedar Shoals High, and renovations, additions, and improvements at Gaines, Alps, and Cleveland Road Elementary Schools. Other monies collected would go toward upgrades in our custodial, nutrition, security, transportation, and technology services.

Almost 60% of E-SPLOST monies are paid by people who visit Athens-Clarke County, including attendees to UGA football games, students attending the university, and many others who shop, stay, dine, or receive services here.

Early voting is open now and runs through Oct. 29. Election Day is Nov. 2, and polling hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Click here to read information about the current projects slated to be completed using E-SPLOST 6 funds.
