SERVICE LEARNING AT COLRAIN with Jaida
Here is what classes at Colrain are up to.
Kindergarten is using a combination of labeling, writing, and dictating to write a message. Also, drawing an illustration (with details!) to match words/message.
First grade is working on a sense of community, and what it means to be a good citizen.
Second grade is writing complete sentences, revising, and using labels and details in pictures.
Third and fourth grade Research : find out about the free lunch program from principal, or Ms. Tina
Speaking and Listening/Writing/ Technology standards, research:
Six grade Work, writing complete sentences, use of punctuation, revising.
Fifth grade : Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Provide logically ordered reasons that are supported by facts and details.
Link opinion and reasons using words, phrases, and clauses (e.g., consequently, specifically).
Describe the responsibilities of government at the federal, state, and local levels (e.g., protection of individual rights and the provision of services such as law enforcement and the building and funding of schools).
And that's what the school has been up to.

ALL ABOUT RABBITS with Grace
Have you ever wondered what rabbits are like, well this is an article about them. I'm going to start with rabbits are social animals like dogs. So they like to play so they need toys. Toys are very important to keep them entertained and not get bored. These are some toys that bunnies like. Toilet paper rolls, pine cones, paper, store bot toys, sticks, those are some toys but you can also buy some on amazon or chewy but those are just suggested places there are still a lot of places. Here is a link for how to make one of the toys with a toilet paper roll here The ball toy
Rabbits also need food and water and hay gives them fiber and helps them digest their food. They can also have treats like lettuce, banana, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, carrots, there are a lot of different veggies and fruits that a bunny can have. But there treats have to be limited like 3 treats a day. Also did you know that rabbits have to have pineapple or mango to help digest hare balls?
Rabbits also need a place to live so they can live in hutches, ex-pens or cages. Bunnies need at least a 2 by 4 cage to play sleep and run around. I hope you have enjoyed reading about rabbits.

ACTIVITIES AT COLRAIN BEFORE COVID with Summer
At Colrain, we do 4-H and lots of other activities. In 4-H there is sewing and cooking, and a lot of other things.
At Colrain, we also do after school for kids whose parents come late or for fun. And in after school you can go outside and play, or color. There are a lot of other things you can do.
In school kids have morning meeting, math, art, music, gym, lunch and recess. And kids kindergarten through 6th grade eat lunch after recess. Pre-k eats lunch before recess. Our school has SCA, when people come and talk about science, and do science with us. They also do an after school program.
We have a lot of programs, here are some: service learning, What you do in the Service learning program is, we help students to connect the concepts they learn in the classroom to concrete, real-world, community-based problems.
These are most of the activities. I hope this lets you know what kids in this school do during normal times.
BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS! with Miss Mary and Joey
Hi, Have you ever thought about, or wondered how wild birds stay warm in the cold winter months?
Have you also wondered how and where they get their daily food and water? There are no flowers, no berries, no insects, and, none of their favorite munchies.
This is where caring humans come in. Our little feathered friends need us to help them during these long, cold winter months.
We can supply you with lots of information concerning feeders, fee , suet, and do it yourself bird feeders.
We look forward to hearing from lots of you!

THIS ARTICLE IS ALL ABOUT: LIFE! with Abi
Right now, life at Colrain Central School is opening back up. We still have remote school until 11:00, if you are not going back to school you get out at 12:00! Unfortunately we still have to wear a mask-in my opinion it makes it hard to breath-also mask makes it hard to see people’s smile and it makes me VERY sad! It's very important for kids to see each other and I'm glad that kids are able to do that now!
I believe that being in school will help me and my friends focus more because some of us are more hands-on learners. Many businesses have gotten shut down. Most restaurants are closing because they can not afford to stay open during the winter months and might stay closed due to COVID. I have been very sad for the families that are losing their businesses.
I'm looking forward to school and seeing my friends. I'm also really looking forward to going back to hybrid school. I'm also looking forward to learning in an actual classroom.
WE LEARN A LOT with Kaydan
We learn a lot of things throughout the years at Colrain Central School. Here are a few of them:
- In kindergarten we learn how to read.
- In 1st grade we learn math, like addition and subtraction.
- In 2nd grade we learned fractions. In ELA we read "The One and Only Ivan". In social studies we learned about the Wampanoags. In science we did a speed test.
- In 3rd grade we learned multiplication, we read "Farmer Boy". And, in social studies we learned about Massachusetts history. In science we made beaver dams out of clay and tested them against water.
- In 4th grade we learned decimals, and we read a poems book. In social studies we learned about famous explorers. In science we tested if we could freeze oil. **spoiler alert** it did not work.
- In 5th grade we learn division and in ELA we are reading 'Chains'. In social studies we learned about slavery. In science this year, we have done life science and done experiments with plants and seeds.
- I'm not sure what happens in 6th grade, since we are only in 5th grade.
