CES 2020-2021 School Handbook
Dear Caregivers:
If you have any questions about the handbook, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or give me a call to review.
Thank you,
Robin
Our first early dismissal Wednesday is September 23rd!
Also, NEW bus stop arrival (at home) times to be published on the MRSD website this week!
Please note that we will begin dismissal on early release Wednesdays at 1:10pm this year. Regular length school day dismissal will continue to be at 1:50pm.
NEW bus route times will be sent out by the district this week, now that we have a more consistent end-of-the-day dismissal routine. Please consider the current times that your child has been arriving home as the new drop-off times. We appreciate your flexibility as we negotiated the new dismissal routines this week. The students adapted to these new routines so well that we were able to establish consistency much faster than we anticipated.
Please note though, that as the year goes on, weather, road work (particularly on Route 28 in West Chatham), and Monomoy Community Services or other family afterschool plans may change times slightly. Please continue to plan a window of around 10minutes before and 20 minutes after the published arrival times. If substantial roadwork will delay buses more than this, you will be contacted by our transportaiton coordinator (if we are advised).
A reminder: All students grade 1-4 will be dropped off at the assigned stop (no caregiver needed); for grade K, a caregiver must be present at stop. For safety, if a Kindergarten student's caregiver is not present at the stop, the student will be returned to CES/HES depending on the next route destination (MRMS/MRHS) for the bus. The office will call the caregiver to let the caregiver know the pick-up location.
Crazy Hat Day for Our Grade 2 Distance Learning Classroom
Distance Learning Families: We would love to continue to receive contributions for our Scoop articles from all of you! Send along pictures, articles, blurbs. We will add to each week's edition.
First graders from Mrs. Hanson's class played the math game 'Make a Ten' using 'Spacemen' to socially distance during the game.
Grade 1 distance learning read brown bear, brown bear and created a puppet so kids can retell the story to someone at home.
A Couple First Day Photos!
We Would Love to See Pictures of "Home" Classrooms! Here are some from the Rogers and the Murray Families!
A SHARK Shout Out:
To SRO Tom Clarke from MRHS for reaching out to schedule an introduction for CES students and his Harwich K9 Officer Fritz (see pictures below). We look forward to scheduling this meet and greet soon.

Community News:
From Ms. Goldsmith, Chatham Town Manager
Hello,
I am asking for your help today to improve Chatham’s 2020 Federal Census response rate. As of today our community response rate stands at a concerning 35.7%. We can do better! Will you please forward this email to your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, everyone?
Census and Seasonality - Playing a Significant Role in Response Rates
Barnstable County is lagging in its response to the Census (47.2%, compared to 65.1% responding in Massachusetts). Census responses are vitally important to our future, as our responses directly inform how more than $675 billion in federal funding is spent. This funding is allocated to communities to support public health, education, affordable housing, and more. All residents should complete the 2020 Census regardless of citizenship. Census information is protected by law.
Click HERE to see live map of self-response rate in Barnstable County by Census tract. The deadline for responding to the Census has been extended through September 30th, 2020.
10 MINUTES,
10 QUESTIONS,

Hi,
I am writing to ask you to share as widely as you can the news that Housing Assistance is ready to help your constituents and clients rapidly access rental and mortgage assistance to help them stay safely housed.
Housing Assistance has launched a 100% online application for rental and mortgage assistance that enables clients to complete one application form to access multiple financial assistance programs. We have over $1,500,000 available to distribute to qualified, year-round residents including:
• RAFT (Residential Assistance for Families in Transition);
• ERMA (Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance);
• Homebuilders of Cape Cod Fund;
• Town specific funds;
• And our own Workforce Housing Relief Fund;
Housing Assistance is the regional agency providing access to state and local assistance funds. We have trained intake staff working remotely with clients to determine the programs that are the best fit for that client’s particular situation, and help clients navigate the systems that are already in place.
Federal Pandemic Unemployment Insurance is ending, and the eviction moratorium may end mid-October. Many people who have never had to ask for help, need help now. The good news is that there is also legislation in front of the governor that will authorize more rental assistance funding into our region.
We are a relatively small region in year-round population, but if we stand together, we can ensure our community gets our fair share. Housing Assistance is advocating for funding for the entire Cape and Islands region and demonstrating to our representatives that we have region-wide solutions that efficiently and effectively serve people whose housing is in danger today!
We are asking for your help spreading the word:
- If you know someone who needs help with rent or mortgage, tell them to contact Housing Assistance today. Call 508-771-5400 or email hac@haconcapecod.org. Or share this link to our streamlined online application: Housing Assistance Corporation Online Rental and Mortgage Assistance Application
- Please share this Facebook post and this Instagram post.
- For more information about eligibility for all the different assistance programs already in place, go to haconcapecod.org/programs/homeless-prevention/ .
Additionally, if your town plans an RFP process for a new rental assistance program, please let us know. We would be happy to apply and help administer it. The Towns of Barnstable and Yarmouth have already selected Housing Assistance to administer their rental assistance program. We can make our public dollars go further by leveraging HAC’s infrastructure and efficiencies. Our agency already has the technology, processes, and expertise in place so that we can take action today!
I would be happy to talk with you personally about how Housing Assistance can help your clients, your constituents, your town. Thank you in advance for doing all you can to spread the word about these services. It’s never been more important that we act swiftly to get relief out to the people who need it most. We’re all in this together!
Thank you,
Alisa Magnotta, CEO

Ever hear of a virtual bike ride? Like everything else this year, the Gasp bike ride across Cape Cod has adapted in creative ways to meet the need for safe social distancing. This year, riders will complete 55-miles of bike riding at their own pace, on their own routes, any time during the week of September 13-20.
But some things don't change: WE CAN has once again put together a Gasp team - for the 10th consecutive year!
There are many ways you can support Team WE CAN. If you want to ride, it' s not too late to sign up. Under the team leadership of Andi Genser, each rider is working to accomplish their individual riding goal while raising funds to support WE CAN’s programs. Email Siobhan Clune to learn more.
You can also support those who are riding by donating to a team member, or to the team as a whole. Read on to meet the team!
