Ed Tech Community of Practice Meeting
All teachers are invited to participate in the 2015-2016 Ed Tech CoP! At our meeting this month, we will continue to explore our personal inquiry question and how it supports the TPACK framework. We will also explore Synergyse, a tool to learn more about Google Apps for Education. Just like last time, we'll end with a Demo Slam!
Don't forget that we will be raffling off Google Cardboard! The more friends you bring, the more tickets you get to enter!

PARKS ONLINE RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS (PORTS) Program
Ports is a free distance learning program that uses the power of interactive videoconferencing to help K-12 schools teach common core state standards in the context of California State Parks. The program includes full units of study as well as videoconference presentations on science, history, and language arts topics.
The units of study contain lessons to be completed in class as well as a culminating videoconferencing session with a park ranger. Click here to see the units of study.
This is a great way to bring content to life, as well as participate in a virtual field trip with an expert!
Spotlight on...
Mike is a 5th grade teacher who utilizes technology in a variety of ways in his classroom. He recently used Google Forms to allow parents to sign up for parent-teacher conferences. He also uses an LMS to create content and online learning experiences for his students to foster collaboration and extend critical thinking skills. His students are learning real life, critical thinking skills with their classroom economy. Students manage an online bank account and earn money as the CEO of their own business.
Around Mike's room, you will find QR codes that link to group work and digital portfolios. Students are often found collaborating on projects and engaging in real life problem solving activities.
Giano Intermediate School Teacher Vanessa Avila
Keeping students engaged and actively participating, Vanessa often shares her iPad with students, and using the Doceri app, students are able to show their work on the iPad which then displays on the whiteboard in the front of the room!
