Panther Pause
20 years of Pride at Colleyville Heritage High School

Panthers,
We are now in the final nine-weeks of the school year. It is amazing how the weeks have flown by, and I hope everyone had a restful spring break. I know personally it was a great time for my family and I to recharge our batteries. As always, there is a lot going on at CHHS. I had the opportunity on Tuesday to enjoy the One Act Play performance as they advanced to the Bi-District round where they will perform today. It is amazing how talented our students are and how rewarding it is for them to see their hard work pay off in such a gratifying way. The girls soccer team begins their playoff run tonight with a game against Arlington Heights. Baseball and softball are already deep into their district games. Track, golf, and tennis are closing in on their district competitions in April. So, it is a great time in Panther Land, and I am excited to see what our students do on the competition fields, as well as how well they will excel in the classrooms as we close out a great school year here at CHHS. Have a great weekend and GO PANTHERS!!

Student Voice
The greatest experiences that come from Colleyville are the multiple activities that you can participate in. I, personally, enjoy the theatre department for their variety of content and the power of expressing important messages through performance. The typical year usually starts off with two to three fall shows with just those members of theatre (Musical, Dramatic Play, and Comedy Play). Then, there's spring musical that combines all Fine Arts departments including choir for vocals, band in the orchestra pit, and occasionally the art department for set design pieces. In the end of the year we also participate in UIL One Act Play where we compete with other schools advancing towards state. The underlying messages in these shows are usually very powerful and could leave audience members in tears.
Another factor that is highly enjoyable about Colleyville Heritage are the connections you can make with your peers and teachers. The teachers that I've had the honor of working with all have such passion for what they teach; the experience would not be the same if they didn't. They care about their students and want to see them succeed in the future and without that you would just have a monotone teacher who makes you do busy work from a textbook daily. The classrooms allow for enough time to work with your classmates and provide for lots of connections with wonderful people of multiple different personalities. It is an honor to be a panther!

TREASURER NEEDED
The Cross Country team is looking for a treasurer for the coming year.
It’s a simple system – all done in Excel – and we have few transactions over the 11-week season.
If your son or daughter plans to be on the 2017-2018 team, you have experience in this area and would be interested in this position, please email Sue Covington at tomsuecovington@msn.com.
As our current treasurer she would be happy to tell you more.

Mentors Needed!
We would like to build a bank of professionals that we may use to match students to mentors. The list will not be made public and will be managed by a teacher. Adding your name will not guarantee that you will be selected as a mentor; by adding your name, you are giving us permission to contact you for assistance.
If you would be willing to mentor a student, please complete this form. Mentor opportunities and time commitments are varied. Please note that all mentors will be required to complete the district background check required of all volunteers. If you have any questions, please contact Kelli Mann. We appreciate your time and support!

ACCEPTED Wall
Exciting New Endeavor! CHHS PTSA is collaborating with CHHS AVID to create a space on our campus that will showcase the accomplishments of our CHHS seniors and where they have been accepted to college. It will be called an ACCEPTED Wall. The purpose of the ACCEPTED Wall is to highlight exceptional college campuses all over the United States and beyond, and to start a conversation about how and why to choose a school of higher learning.
Here is how students and parents can help:
1. We would like pennants from colleges that you visit. While you are on a tour, pick up a pennant to donate. They can be dropped at the CHHS office beginning Tuesday, January 17th .
2. When you receive acceptance confirmation and decide on a college, scan your letter and send it Dawn Treese at dawn@treese.org. These will be framed and hung on the ACCEPTED Wall.
Questions? Contact Dawn Treese at dawn@treese.org
