The SoRoCo Weekly Newsletter
October 30, 2016
Dear Team,
Thank you for the positive energy and collaboration at PLC this past Friday, vertically aligning our academic power standards from Pre-K to 12th grade. The work is arduous and certainly time consuming, but it is extremely meaningful work and we are chipping away at it - the same way one eats an elephant - one bite at a time. We will get there.
The conversations within the Math Department were refreshing. It was heartening to see our high school teachers clarify and weigh in on the "No Excuse" grade level expectations of our primary students' number sense. Likewise, it was powerful for our elementary teachers to help determine the expectations of the upper level mathematicians.
Like I said, we will get there. The ELA Department has completed the "No Excuse" list for the grammar and conventions of writing, and has already begun creating their end-of-year assessments and rubrics to hold each of our students accountable for these grade level expectations.
Thank you again for all the hard work we see you putting forth as a district-wide community.
On another note, this is a rare week, where we have not only one, but two assemblies. As always, please maximize the rigor and productivity with the precious time you have with your students. Our students WANT to be and need to be challenged, and they are looking for you to lead them.

High School Student of the Week - Lorren Bostock
Lorren was nominated this week by our High School front office secretary, Sylvia Teters. Sylvia nominated him for a few reasons. "First of all, he is very respectful. Second, he always greets me in the lunch line. And third, Lorren helped me put up my Halloween decorations."

We turned it into a fundraiser and made some money for the American Cancer Society. Eden is full of many good ideas, as demonstrated by her excellent grades in her classes.
