Hawthorne Happenings

Week of 1/30 - 2/3

Hello all,

Another great week is behind us. Here are some highlights from the week:

  • Live Animal Show - On Monday, our students enjoyed the live animal show. It is rewarding to give our students opportunities like, especially knowing many of them do not get those opportunities often. Continue to praise your students and reward them in the classroom.
  • PRESS Training - On Wednesday and Thursday, Lisa Weis and I were in Des Moines for PRESS training. I see some great possibilities that may come from these new intervention materials. I am excited to introduce these materials to our ILT on Monday. If you have interest in reviewing or piloting these materials please let me know.

ILT in PRESS Training - 1/30

PRESS is an intervention system that we are looking into. The ASAT team was hearing frustration from teachers. When they were administering FAST interventions and would bring the data to the ASAT, they would be told this intervention isn't targeted, go back and try something else. That led to frustration. PRESS provides us with a diagnostic tool to assess what skill areas students are deficient in and gives us a bank of scripted, targeted interventions. This should help us avoid the wasted time with non-targeted interventions and cut down teacher frustrations, as well as help us close the gaps and increase our school-wide proficiency.
