Westwood Wire
August 8, 2021
Dear Westwood Families,
Thank you for taking the time to review last week's inaugural 21-22 Westwood Wire, campus newsletter. We had over a thousand views and we hope that you found it accessible and relevant. Please continue to view our newsletters in your email inbox, Westwood Twitter & Facebook pages, school website and PTA platforms every Sunday through August 22nd and on a three week cycle beginning September 14th.
This week, the leadership team of administrators, counselors, instructional coaches and department chairs, welcomed our new teachers to campus. We had a wonderful week getting to know them better and support their transition to RISD and Westwood Junior High. The enthusiasm, student-focus and talent that these teachers bring match that of our returning teachers and our expectation of excellence. All staff and faculty return to campus on Monday for a week of teambuilding and preparation for your students.
We look forward to seeing all our Wolves on campus for a safe and successful 21-22 school year. District senior leadership is working closely with state and local officials to revise and update our protocols and responses as things continue to change very rapidly. At Westwood Junior High we will continue to vigilantly follow the RISD Blueprint. Please take the time to read the RISD Blueprint and speak with your student. We ask that you partner with us to ensure that all students feel safe, welcome, included, accepted and belong at Westwood Junior High.
Details of Schedule Pick-Up on Thursday August 12th can be found in this newsletter below. This event is not mandatory nor required as all aspects of this event are also electronic for your convenience.
Your student's schedule will be available for you to view in Focus on Friday August 13th, only if you have completed the Online Enrollment Process. If you have not set up a Focus Account, please see the instructions here. For Focus or Google password resets please fill out this form for 7th grade and this one for 8th grade.
You may also find the RISD page here useful as it has additional back to school resources. Please also expect the bus schedule to be included in the August 15th edition of the Westwood Wire as we will receive it later this week.
Wolf Camp will begin the school day on Tuesday August 17th when all 7th grade students and new 8th grade students to RISD will receive a Chromebook. During Wolf Camp, students will also participate in a tour of the building. Additionally, all campus personnel will be in the hallways directing and supporting students to their classrooms during the first few days of school.
Westwood students will be assigned lockers this year, where they will be expected to leave their cell phones during the school day. Campus expectations, locker location, use and combinations will also be reviewed with students in Wolf Camp during the first two days of school. The revised bell schedule for both August 17th and August 18th will be sent in the August 15th Westwood Wire.
Please mark your calendars for the PTA General Meeting on Wednesday September 15th 5:30-6pm, followed by a Parent Teacher Meet and Greet from 6-7:30pm. A Virtual Open House will be sent out electronically during the week of September 7th, so that you can learn more about your student's wonderful teachers and the excellent work begin done at Westwood.
The faculty and staff at Westwood are ready to connect with your students on Tuesday, August 17th. If you have any questions please let us know. We are excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year!
Sincerely,
Katie Mottram
