Weekly Family Update # 4

September 6, 2020

Principal's Message

Hello Falcons Families,

We have had a great first week here at Oak Valley. Lots of teachers were broadcasting from their classrooms and I was able to pop in and say hi. I cannot thank this community enough for your patience and grace as we have prepared to get this school year going. We had a few glitches this past week and some families needed help with technology, but overall, it was a great success. There were so many huge smiles in little Zoom boxes. It was amazing to see our students engaged in conversations with their teacher and with their peers. School is back!! It made me so happy to see our Falcons again. We will continue to work hard this week to get students back in the swing of school. Teachers are spending extra time on social/emotional supports and creating a kind and caring Virtual Learning environment. This will be critical as we move forward.

If you are still having connection issues, or your student is confused on where they should be, please reach out to main office number, 858-487-2939 and we will help! There is a button below that links to the new PUSD Parent Academy. This is a huge resource filled with lots of information on how to navigate the various programs used in PUSD. I highly recommend you check it out. As a staff, we will continue to refine and align our process as we move forward to make navigating Canvas as easy as possible for students and families.

We had a great kick off to the new school year and I look forward to seeing our student’s brains engaged in thinking and learning again! I hope everyone has a relaxing day off tomorrow. Remember that Tuesday is our weekly late start day, school will begin at 9:30. The bell schedule is linked below in this newsletter.

Have a wonderful Labor Day Falcons!

Beaming with Falcon Pride,

Mr. Young

Big picture

Welcome “back” to school, Falcon Families! While school looks different and a little strange for now, we still have the same world-class educators and exceptional students filling our Zooms, Kahoots and FlipGrids. Your Oak Valley Foundation is already working behind the scenes to help fund programming, equipment, training and materials to support all Falcon students and faculty. Did you know Foundation donations funded the shade structures that are part of the new building? We were getting our campus ready for outdoor learning before it was cool! Want to learn more about past and future funding plans? Be sure to follow the Oak Valley Falcon Foundation on Facebook

We need your help funding the budget gaps between what Oak Valley is given for expenses versus what we need to maintain our highest standards in education. Can you help with a donation of $150 or more to fund things like Science class lab consumables that students can use at home? What about $300 to support our Gateway to Technology or Art electives for much needed, non-funded supplies? Make your tax-deductible donation now at www.oakvalleyfalconfoundation.com and help us support learning for all of our Falcons!

The Foundation is run by parent volunteers, and with only three short years at the school, our board is ever-changing. Want a voice in fundraising and spending? We’d love to have you join our board of directors. Contact Foundation President, Darrell Keller, at ovfalconfoundation@gmail.com for more information.
