Wanted: 2016-17 SSS Learning Group Leaders

During your SSS Learning Group sessions have you envisioned yourself as one of the Leaders? Can you see yourself serving as a peer mentor to first-year students? Well, do we have an opportunity for you! SSS is seeking approximately 8 new Learning Group Leaders for the 2016-17 year. You could be one of those Leaders!
To be eligible for the position, you must be:
- Current UW‐Oshkosh student and at minimum, Sophomore Standing, by Fall 2016
- A minimum combined GPA of 2.5 and in “Good Standing” at UW‐Oshkosh
- Must give a one year commitment to this position (fall and spring semesters)
- Able to work 10 hours per week each semester

SSS Scholarships Available
Application deadline is Friday, May 6 @ 4:00 PM
Application materials can be obtained from the SSS website: sss.uwosh.edu/scholarships
Twenty-two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to present SSS students for the 2016-17 academic year
- 15 scholarships will be awarded to students in the traditional SSS program
- 7 scholarships will be awarded to students in the STEM SSS program
In order to be eligible for the scholarships, students must:
1) Currently be 1st or 2nd years student at UW Oshkosh
2) A recipient of the Federal Pell Grant for the 2016-17 academic year
3) 2.5 GPA at the end of the Spring 2016 semester
4) Enrolled in 12 or more credits both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters
How to apply:
Be an active participant in SSS or STEM SSS
- Attended the required number of meetings with your SSS advisor
- Participate in the majority of your Learning Group sessions, if applicable
Or
- Attend three campus events and write a summary of each
Complete an SSS Scholarship Application
Write a 2 to 3 page essay addressing specific criteria
See your SSS or STEM SSS Advisor for additional information

Artist, Author, Activist, and Scholar Dr. Marie Cartier illustrates how the American butch-femme bar culture int he mid-20th Century was a vibrant, sacred, and political space for its community and the birthplace of the struggle for gay and lesbian civil rights before Stonewall.

Learn how to combat the wage gap. Not sure what “wage gap” is? It’s the oft-cited statistic that women make 77 cents to a man’s dollar. But it’s more complicated than that. Race, ethnicity, and gender are all a factor, with Hispanic women facing the largest pay gap. This workshop will provide students with the knowledge they need to feel confident in salary negotiations in order to combat the wage gap.
