Planning for English Landing Field Days in May
Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade
Field Days are just around the corner for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Hopefully the kids will have a great time participating in games and activities that demonstrate some of our key skills we have focused on in PE classes all year long! This day will not be possible without the much needed help from visiting adults. So mark the following dates on your calendars. All a.m. times are from 9:00-11:00 and p.m. times are from 1:00- 3:00.
PLEASE make sure your child is wearing sunscreen, has a water bottle with his/her name on it, and is wearing tennis shoes! Thanks!
May 2nd – Kindergarten (Rainout date is May 9th)
May 3rd – First Grade a.m./Third Grade p.m. (Rainout date is May 10th)
A few parents have already signed up to help out. If you have not signed up to shadow the kids yet, I need you! Please drop an email letting me know you can volunteer to help out on your child’s field day. You will be able to rotate right along with your child during the day as you help out. Remember to tell me your name, your child’s name, and the grade level they are in this year. I hope to complete my volunteer list in the next weeks by April 18th. My email is the following Lindseyj@parkhill.k12.mo.us. or my phone number is 359-5771. Thank you for your help.
Mrs. Lindsey

MU Senior Year On-Site Program Begins at English Landing in 2017-2018
For the 2017-18 school year, English Landing and Line Creek Elementary will be collaborating with the University of Missouri as a Senior Year On-Site Program (SYOSP). The Senior Year On-Site Program is part of the University of Missouri’s Educator Preparation Program. All MU elementary education majors participate in a full year on-site experience during their senior year in a partner school, such as English Landing. The first semester of the SYOSP is designed to immerse these elementary education majors into the life and culture of our English Landing school community. Their work begins with back-to-school meetings with teachers and assisting with classroom setup. SYOSP interns are regarded as full-time faculty members and participate in all school events such as teacher workdays, professional learning communities and data team meetings. The SYOSP interns will spend a minimum of three days per week at English Landing during the first semester and complete course work that complements the internship. During the second semester, the internship extends to five days a week in a single classroom where the SYOSP intern completes the student-teaching experience. We are excited for English Landing to partner with the University of Missouri and provide rich experiences for our Eagles and the SYOSP interns.
Repeat: Take Your Child to Work Day: Student Attendance
As families begin to make plans for Take Your Child To Work Day (April 27, 2017), I want to make sure you have accurate information regarding how student attendance will be documented on this day.
Up until last school year, a letter had been sent home with all Park Hill elementary students stating that they would be counted present at school if a signed form and Take Your Child to Work Day reflection activity was returned. As of last school year this was no longer the case since following this former practice violated the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidelines regarding student attendance.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education language regarding daily student attendance states: “Students must be in attendance in an instructional capacity under the direct supervision of a certificated employee of the district to be counted for attendance purposes.” Therefore, if students are absent, for part or all of the day, on Take Your Child To Work Day (Thursday, April 27th), they will be counted as absent for the time they are not in school.
In Park Hill at the elementary level, we do not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences. Therefore, when a student is absent, it is simply counted as an absence. At English Landing Elementary School, we do not recognize perfect (100%) attendance. We strive for student attendance to be at or above 95%.
I encourage you to make the decision that best meets the needs of your child/family when determining if your child will participate in Take Your Child To Work Day (April 27, 2017). Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding attendance procedures for Take Your Child to Work Day (April 27, 2017).
Sincerely,
Dr. Kerry Roe
