Language Arts

Reading - We are continuing to build our reading stamina and meet in our small reading groups. We are so fortunate to have our literacy coach, Mrs. Myrick, help in the room three days a week to assist our young readers!

Writing - We are still working on writing our informational books. This week we will learn about how writers sort things into groups to help the reader learn from their books. Students will learn how to create a table of contents and a diagram for their books.

Math

*Students will continue to understand that all two digit numbers contain groups of tens and some ones.

*We will continue solving math story problems.

*We will continue to understand the doubles strategy to solve problems using mental math.

Science

Last week we planted our squash seeds in the greenhouse and can't wait to watch them grow. Students will be observing decomposing pumpkins and keeping a class observation log. We will ask: What part of the life cycle is this? What is that green fuzzy stuff growing and why? How long will it take to decompose? What is decomposing anyway?!

Social Studies

We will learn about the first Thanksgiving and read a book comparing and contrasting the past and the present called Oh What a Thanksgiving.

*** If your child would like to research a game that Pilgrim or Native American children might have played, our class would love to learn it after the Thanksgiving dessert party on Wednesday, November 19th.
