Office Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:45 am -4:45pm
Please remember you MUST have a picture ID to check out your child from school. Please present that ID after ringing the bell at the front door. Our phone number is 301-753-1748.
Office reminders:
- If you plan on picking up your child early, please do so by 3:15 PM or after 4PM. Remember to email lgibson@ccboe.com and martines@ccboe.com giving your permission for anyone, other than the legal guardian, to pick up your child. We will not release a student without a permission note from you. This includes individuals you may have listed as an emergency contact. We still need a note from you giving us permission to release your child even if they are an emergency contact. We ask that you do not attempt to pick up your child between 3:15 and 4pm since this is during our bus dismissal time. Please stay within these timeframes so not to get caught in the other school's dismissals. Thank you!
- At this time, we are not permitting parents to eat lunch with their students in the cafeteria due to space. If you would like to bring your child lunch, we may be able to find you an area, not in the cafeteria to eat with your child. Please remember that space is very limited currently.
- Birthday treat- Please do not send in birthday treats such as goodie bags, cupcakes, or presents. If you would like to celebrate your child's special day at school, you may purchase ice cream from the cafeteria to be served at lunch for the class. Please contact Mrs. Sprouse, cafeteria manager, for details at jsprouse@ccboe.com.

Info from the Art Teacher ***UPDATED***
Great start so far to the 2023 art year! The latest Virtual Art Show has the artwork from the Letter I to our current art lessons where we just finished up with and Into to Computer Art. For the Letter L, students brought their laptops to work and explore 4 computer art programs. They really enjoyed the digital side of art and were able to explore each program and share their work on their screen at the end of the class. Many student discovered new ideas on the programs and were able to teach me too! It was a great experience for all!
As we look into the second half of the school year, I am excited to fill our Virtual Art Show with the remaining letters of the alphabet. For March’s Youth Art Month, 3 students were selected to represent TC Martin at the Board of Education of March 23, 2023 for the outstanding Art pieces. These students are Aubrey Craven (3rd Grade), Clara Downs (3rd Grade) and Kylie Hudson (5th Grade). Congratulations and I look forward to our warmer weather together and our wonderful art world! Check out our latest Virtual Art Show below!

March is a fun month for P.E. classes as we begin working on our Striking units. Striking activities include things like floor hockey and volleyball. Students will also be working on being a good sport and building each other up. Thank you for reminding your students to wear sneakers on P.E. days!

Fifth grade students will take the MISA Science Test this week. Students in Mrs. Beard's class will test Wednesday and Friday, and all other fifth grade classes will test Thursday and Friday. Testing will begin at 9:45 a.m. Please ensure that your fifth grader is on time the days they are testing. They should also get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days. The students have worked hard with Mr. Emory to prepare for the science test, and we are excited to see them do their Tiger Best! If you have any questions about the MISA test, please contact Mr. Gardiner at ngardiner@ccboe.com.
What's Happening In Math???
Kindergarten
- When given a set of 5, students will decompose the set into two smaller sets of 4 and 1 or 2 and 3 or 5 and 0.
- Students will differentiate between 4 + 1 and 1 + 4. For example, if asked, “Mrs. Smith has 5 blue and red crayons. How many are blue and how many are red?” Students may say there are 4 blue and 1 red or 1 blue and 4 red.
- Students will count, make sets to 20, and record those sets. Recording includes using a numeral to describe the set as well as drawing a pictorial (picture) representation.
- Students will be identifying (naming), describing, building, and comparing 2-dimensional shapes. They will count sides and corners.
- Students will identify circles, triangles (all variations in appearance), squares, rectangles, hexagons, and trapezoids.
1st Grade
- Students will develop an understanding of place value for numbers up to 99. Students will be introduced to the base-ten system. The understanding students develop about units of tens and ones will be the foundation for base-ten work that continues through grade 5.
- Students add and subtract multiples of ten and see that 3 tens and 2 tens is 5 tens.
2nd Grade
- Students will learn about the structure of a number line and use it to represent numbers within 100. They will also relate addition and subtraction to length and represent the operations on the number line diagram.
- For example, the number lines show how students can represent 8+ 4 =12.
3rd Grade
- Students will make sense of division and learn to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They will also use the four operations to represent and solve two-step word problems. Students will work to:
- fluently multiply and divide within 100
- know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers
4th Grade
- Students will learn to express small and large numbers, from hundredths to hundred-thousands. They will learn to write tenths and hundredths using decimal notation and to work with whole numbers within 1 million.
5th Grade
- Students will multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using place value understanding, properties of operations, and the relationship between multiplication and division. They use the standard algorithm to multiply multi-digit whole numbers and partial quotients algorithms to divide whole numbers up to four digits by two digits.
Notes from the Nurse....
Greetings parents and students. My name is Shikea Duckett and I am the new school nurse for TC Martin Elementary. I am overjoyed to be part of such an amazing team. I look forward to working with you all. My number one goal is to keep our scholars safe. Times can be overwhelming and inconvenient with the influx of different viruses and that is why I ask that all parents please assess your child at home prior to sending them to school. Also, I am seeing several of the same students every day. If your child is coming to the nurse frequently, please talk with them regarding when they should be visiting me. I want to give the best care possible to our students at TC Martin.

Music Updates
- We are continuing to work on our recorders in 4th and 3rd grade. Hopefully you are hearing good sounds at home. 2nd, 1st, and K are working on expanding our repertoire learning new songs. 5th grade is studying various performances to determine what makes a good performance. Happy March!
