"California Fun" at UC Berkeley, Volume I, Issue I
Attention Parents and Guardians!
We hope you like our new look for the parent newsletter! The staff at SIG UC Berkeley wanted to re-invent our newsletter into a more visual newsletter and still keep you informed of all of the events happening during the session.
Mini-Olympics
The SIG Mini Olympics was a big hit Tuesday night. You could see the excitement on the faces of the students and counselors as they cheered for their teammates. By far a crowd favorite, students and counselors alike laughed and cheered as they watched campers and staff try to pop balloons without their hands and drop hatch eggs back to back, along with many other creative games.

Academic Enrichment-SIG: Apprentice
I'm Jordan Kouassi from Chicago, and I'm very interested in business. I was ecstatic when I found out there would be a business class at SIG UC Berkeley. We're becoming competent in business in general, and it's very applicable to real life. I'm hoping to start a business in a few years, and the skills I learned in SIG Apprentice will help me do so.

Academic Enrichment: Crime Scene Investigation
My favorite course at SIG is Crime Scene Investigation; it is about how to deal with crime and solve crime. Taking this course gives us a better understanding of forensic science. This course contains physics, math, anthropology, chemistry, and the study of DNA. CSI is the best course I've ever had!

Brain Teaser
A farmer in California owns a beautiful pear tree. He supplies fruit to a nearby grocery store. The store owner has called the farmer to see how much fruit is available for him to purchase. The farmer know that the main trunk has 24 branches. Each branch has 12 boughs and each bough has 6 twigs. Since each twig bears one piece of fruit, how many plums will the farmer be able to sell?
